Over the past 20 days each of my 4 dogs has come down with the following symptoms
which took about 6 days with each dog and was staggered............

day 1
quiter then usual
loose poops

day 2
off feed
watery poops

days 3 & 4
still off off feed
no poops

day 5
back on feed
loose poops

day 6
so hungry they cannot eat enough
regular poops

day 7 and on
regular interest in food.
all have bounced back with even more gusto then usual - they're playing keep away in the back yard as I rip out the carpet. Even after steam cleaning every day, it smells like a nasty pet store in here!

I've searched the yard and house and there is nothing that could have eaten that could have caused this. They're feed has not changed throught this whole time.

Could this be a doggie stomach virus?

Today, I'm ripping out carpet as even when crated, they were polluted.  Will replace with tile asap

JMO...
But when Spring arrives, so does rabbit poop that was covered and now unearthed after the snow. That is what I think that they pick up, they love this too much!  Then.. the poop gets even poopier! (YUCK!!) Not a bug,  but mother nature!

The answer to your question is your dog food.

by SitasMom on 24 April 2009 - 17:04

there is no snow where we live to cover up rabbit poop.......

they are back one the same dog food (same sacks and everything), the dogs eat different dog foods form different manufacturers..........

Welness Core
Chicken Soup
Tast of the Wild
and
Purina Pro

how could it be the dog food?

Could be dogfood or viral infection, viral will have fever and nasty dirrehea. One dog had this in January.
Most likely sounds like the dogfood.

by SitasMom on 24 April 2009 - 18:04

how can dog food from 3 different manufacturers do this? I can understand if all the dogs were eating the same thing or of all the dogs were eating feed from the same manufacturer. that is not the case here.

I don't check for fever.........noses were dry and hot if that matters

Sitasmom, a few of mine have gone though a similar cycle last week. So far everyone is still 100% normal. Someone I work with was having similar issues with their dogs a swell. Of course, every time I wanted to take in a stool sample, no one would poop.

We do usually see an increase in stomach issues in the spring, we do samples and if needed we medicate.  I know everyone here always make sure that the dog bowls are washed with hot water and a good soap. But we have owners that when asked  if they wash the dog dishes everyday they look at you funny. I am glad your dogs are feeling better.
Always,
Cee
