hi,just wanted to make people aware of problems with puppies,my puppy oscar is 10mth old,he has just suffered with a interuption of the blood flow

,he was fine one minute and then he was unable to get up,we got him straight to our vet,who at first thought hed got hip displacia, he was sent to a specialized orthapedic vet who did many tests on him and he told us oscar had a problem with blood flow which made him paralised from the head down, to cut a long story short it has been hard work and a lot of time spent with him,he his going to physio every week and getting better now,

The point im wanting to make his dont let your puppy do too much like running and walking and jumping all over,my physio told me puppies should be limited to a lot of exercise until they are older i.e 2 yrs, because there bones and joints need to grow and build up there strength, oscar has got elbow displacia and hip displacia as well,

Elle, I am sorry about your puppy. But I am somewhat buffled about what your intentions are. This is your first post here and it appears you have still to learn a whole lot regards to the GSD. Your warning maybe well ment, but what happens to your pup is exeptional and not a standard. It appears that your pup is not from the best breeding and loaded with health problems. The dysplasia might be one of the least problems you will have to deal with. Of more concern is the "Stroke". 10 month old puppies dont have strokes, unless there is something wrong with the heart or another congenital abnormality of the vessels in the brain. If thats the case, expect more problems.

I hope that this was an injury to some degree which would maybe fixable. Yet still to diagnosis hip/ and elbow dysplasia at 10 months old it must be significant. I disagree strongly with your "physio" therapist. Its not the amount of exercise, but how the pup is exercised and what the exercise itself is. Good luck to you.

just to say i have been brought up my intire life with gsd.so i do know quite a bit about the breed,i agree what happened to my pup was exceptional we was told he was the youngest in the uk to have had this problem but not the youngest in the world which was 4mth,i also agree about the breeder because my brother and sister have oscars sisters and there not 100% either,

i just wanted to make people aware not to work there pups too hard till there bones had matured.

Sorry for YOUR problem, but none of that is right, These puppies are as sturdy as they come and if not ,then something is wrong with the dog, mine come out at 4 weeks to 110lb sire and 80lb female, both working lines high drive. They teach run jump and learn from parents who dont stop. Never a problem with health or the adults hurting them and Im talking about 9 at a time.So I would look to dogs health and breeding, and I ll try to be nice but the way you worded things may make a new person think that your experience is something to watch for. It is not. Why member say do your research is just this. I do wish the best for your dog maybe you can get some advise on its condition.

Are you sure it was a stroke and not a seizue? Out of curiosity, what age was he when hips and elbows were xrayed?

he was 6mth old when he had his first xray for his front leg ,and it was only about 4wks ago when he had his hip xray,he his still under a specialist orthapedic vet and he has pysio every week.
