Sorry, this is just trivial nonsense, but It's been ticking me off, especially today.
OBVIOUSLY, because he is black, he can not be a TRUE GS.
OBVIOUSLY, he MUST be part Labrador! Because labs are black? Whut's this BS? Since when do labs ears stand erect?
Pedigrees mean nothing, because you can get them just ANYWHERE.
Because you're last name is German, means you know everything about Germany including it's German Shepherds! Even though you live in the US.
I wish people would get a clue before they bash my dog and call him a mutt.
I'll get over it though.

I feel you

Yes, I too understand. I have a sable and the general public doesn't readily recognize him as a GSD either. Someone even asked if he was a Keeshound! LOL! Just gotta laugh at the ignorance!

You put so much time and effort in to picking the lines/litter only to have it called a lab or a mutt! I'm sure lab people find the comment just as insulting. Sure makes me appreciate those who know a GSD when they see it.
Now that mine a year and half old I'm less sensative about it. In fact with all the dangerous breed stuff going around the lab association sort of works in some situations.

Everyone is an expert!
I used to fun one trialing my mixed breed in agility. Some clubs, instead of putting just mixed breed, if you enter a "made up" breed on the entry form they will put that. My dog's name was Geronimo. So for his "breed" I put Native American Jumping Dog. Had a person ask, wow is that the Native American Jumping Dog? Said yes, it's a rare breed and walked away! LOL

Rezkat5: WOW! hahaha
Lukas: I understand how you feel. I always get comments about Atlas being a mixed breed because he isn't "big enough!" GAHHH I hate that so much!!!! He is 10 months old and 75lbs. He's on par, but because he isn't the over weight "King Shepherd" he isn't a true shepherd!! All because he is 75 lbs. Ignorance is bliss I suppose. OH! and I almost forgot the best part. I say his name is Atlas and, I kid you not, the response I get almost everytime is," Like the book?" HAHAAHA... I can't wait to hear the comments I get from about my Red and Black sable Baby coming home in June named Ocean hahah.

Reezkat...LOL. I'm already getting people asking if my 15 week pup Anubis a Coyote. People here are convinced Coyotes and Wolves are always out to kill humans....very redneck town.... People here also never see sables or blacks. Just black and tans. In fact a black and tan American line I worked with was extremely overweight. Everyone thought she was healthy....most Am lines are fat that I see anyway. I got her to lose literally 15 lbs while she was here. You could barely see the outline of a rib or two when she was done here....but thats too skinny to them.....I always got told how pretty she was when walking her around town....sure I get it with Anubis also, but no one even knows what he is. I guess I should come up with some off the wall breed for him too.

My female's sister who is a sable, when she was losing her puppy coat did actually look very coyote like! LOL

I have black and red dogs and get that too. My V rated 25", 75 lb bitch is "too small", she must be mixed with something else because they have "white hairs on their back" (that would be her bitch stripe...lmfao). Of course the average yahoo tends to think that sables must be "part wolf". I get this one a lot: "What kind of dog is that?" "A german shepherd" "Are you sure? I've never seen one reddish like that" alternaitve answer would be "ohhhh......is it pedigreed/full blood?"
I had some guy really get up my behind about my dogs being so small at a pet store. Finally I got fed up, pointed over to the book section, and suggested he pick up a GSD book and read what the standard is for size before continuing to insult my dogs. He was pretty damn rude, actually asked me if they had been sick as puppies and had their growth stunted. My girls are range from 60-75+. You aren't alone, Luka!

We get the same thing with Sabin, many say you cannot raise a wolf, I say he is a GS, they only wolves are black. But you guys are going to laugh at this one for Jami she is a mal, on guy walked up to us in a store and said, " your dog is the most beautiful norwegian elkhound I have ever seen!". I just smiled and said yes she is, I just love the breed.
Always,
Cee
