Bill passed, but the title is off of the bill, which means it is NOT in a final form. The bill now goes to a conference committee, where hopefully a bunch of changes will be made. If they can't agree on a final wording, it will wither and die in committee.

Unfortunately, this bill as it stands right now, will only affect true puppy mills if THEY stand up and wave their hands and say, "Oh, Me! Me! Please enforce the law on me!" Obviously, they are NOT going to do that.

Ya know what gets me about these new rules and regulations ? Is the fact that pet stiores seem to be exempt from the laws ........ Go figure .        I have not read this bill but all the others I have read gave exemption to the pet stores .

I think at the BARE MINIMUM the pet stores should be required by law to TELL people where their puppy came from.   Yes, we got your pup from xxx dealer/broker, whatever.  The way it stands now, all their puppies were raised on a farm in a field of daisies with the loving family's five small children. And poeple are stupid enough to believe it.:/

A good pet store will only buy from USDA breeders and the info on breeder and broker is given at time of sale.Lets face it there are good and bad pet stores just like there are good and bad breeders.

The worst part of any bill is that it will effect all of us.Not just the comercial breeders but any one having more then 3 breeding females.

It is our right to own and raise the animals of our choice. If we lose one fight against bills like this do you think it will stop? The next animal bill will be against one you own.We as animal lovers and owners should fight to stop all bills .While at the same time I believe we should govern from within. If you visit a bad kennel turn them in.

Excuse me, but what decent breeder would allow their pups to go to a pet store? jh

by gotto on 23 April 2009 - 03:04

I did not say anythng about a breeder from this site placing puppies in a pet store.Where there is a need people will fill it.Are all pet stores bad?My point is it is all about taking away your rights.Yes some breeders are bad and should suffer but a bill like this one can and will hurt others.

I think some people are fast to jump on ALL pet stores...are All breeders bad?

One bill leads to another.

Exactly!  No one who cares about their puppies and where they go would EVER sell to a pet store or a broker.  I agree wholeheartedly that true puppy mills need to be out of business, but this particular bill won't do it.

The fact is that animal cruelty laws already exist. These small town and backwoods sheriffs KNOW where these people are in their county. Heck, some of these mills may be RUN by the dang LE in the county(or their wives/sons/daughter/second cousins).  If the will existed to go out and take a look, most of these substandard places could already be charged and their dogs confiscated.
