Hi all.  Please forgive me if I sound ignorant as I am a novice but learning fast . I have been following the messageboard for a few weeks now , I was surprised to read in the advert for the GSD League show that there is a fun class for long coated GSDs . I assume this is to generate more entries for the show ?.

I realise that long coated puppies do pop up in some litters but as they are not advised in the breed standard reputable breeders would not breed to produce these coats on purpose , am I right ?. Therefore surely by putting on a class for long coats whether it be fun or not at a show run by the German Shepherd League will only encourage breeders and newcomers to breed more of them ?.

Regarding Fun Long Coat Class, indeed You make a very good point Petowner. An added concern might be how will this FUN class be judged, the Funniest Long Coat i.e. the one wearing a funny outfit or with a funny grin or sad eyes and loppy ears OR the Best Constructed , Sound and best moving Long coat? In which case if it is the latter what part of that is supposed to be FUN?

I now start to question what the present League Council are thinking !! I'm all for FUN but think the criteria for this FUN class a bit strange and suspect to say the least. As for the claim it will be ONE of or THEE Best show of the year, quite a claim for an Open Show Phillip, though the fact it has been dedicated to the Memory of one of the most respected, genuine and nicest people we have had in our breed makes me hope he gets a good send off whilst at the same time makes me cringe at the fact it is already raising some eyebrows, lets hope you take it as constructive critism and deal with it constructively. Tony deserves nothing less.

Regards

Sue

Sue, I wasn't coming on this board anymore, but you have annoyed me, my mum and dad were coming to this show with their Long coat male for a fun day out, and yes they were going to enter him in the class because they think their beautiful pet dog is the best in the world and they dearly love him, they also wanted to see the show etc..    on your Post above Sue I shall tell them not to bother, no wonder people come out of this breed, and what Philip said about being one of the best shows etc... what is wrong with that Sue, your just going off on your High Horse again,

Regards

Kerry i had just written something similar but for some reason it hasnt appreared.I cant believe that two people have already knocked this show and basically the commitee.

No wonder new people dont want to get involved,no wonder entries are going down.IF Phill wants to say "Its one of ,if not the best show of the year" then isnt that  a good thing and isnt he jsut trying to boost the entries for this show.

People can show longcoats at any show (and have, here and abroad) they may not win,so what is wrong in a little bit of fun for people with a longcoat, you never know they could get the bug and hey ho we have a few new people to our lovley breed.God why do some people have to take everything so seriously and scrutinize what Phill has wriiten, take it as its meant .

Maybe we can all have a nice day out,inc people with longcoats.

Kerry,  In my post I gave constructive critism and asked for it to be taken as such.

As a matter of interest were you speaking for yourself or the League in your reply, sometimes it gets awfully confusing if one partner takes up the pen for the other.

Sue

I hope this show gets everyone's support, In memory of Tony, one of the nicest people you could wish to meet.   As regarding the long coat classes, why should it not be fun,  which ever way it is judged!!   I also don't think a couple of long coat classes  will have breeders producing more of them.   It looks a super day out for lovers of ALL German Shepherds   Get behind the committee and make this a day to remember

Karen, you consider making fun of longcoats a good day out? As you said, there is nothing to stop longcoats entering anyway so why make up a FUN class for them? And all I was doing was asking what Criteria this FUN class was going to take, maybe I have a friend with a long coat too who wants to know. No-one wants to turn up for a party being the ONLY one in FANCY DRESS.

Sue
