Puppy raising - Page 1

Hi everyone,

New-ish to the board here. I have had trained adults that are unfortunately no longer with me and I just bought my first GSD pup. He's a hand full and has very strong drive. He is 12 weeks old. I'm wanting to get information from all of you experienced people about how to properly raise a working dog. He is to be used for SchH and personal protection.

Hello Athene, welcome. Please ignore the crazy posts that have been popping up lately.

Who is your puppy out of/by?  Love that puppy breath!

Listen it is very good that you want to learn,do yourself and your new puppy a favoure and get yourself a couple of vedios that Ed Frawley sells,how to raise a working pyppy and Bernard Flinks vedio building drive and focus. that is the best place to start not this Board,not because there are no intelligent and experienced people on this board,but it is hard to learn from a dicussion board.at this stage u need some one to hold your hand and that is what every one needs in the begining.vedios can do that for you because you can see the concepts being taught in the form of pictures and it is therefore,very helpfull.watch vedios over and over again untill you understand the concepts completely. so start with that and learn from that first and then come on here and ask questions so when people tell you something it will make sence or not. have a nice one.

Locate your local Schutzhund club and get aquainted.  This will be your best bet for help.  Most members will welcome you with open arms and you will get all kinds of help.  There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site that can and will help you.  It is difficult to offer suggestions unless you are specific in your questions.  Let us know exactly what you are experiencing or have a question about and see what kind of input you get.
