So, it is finally that time of year when the riding mower comes out of hibrernation and a long standing battle is once again rejoined.

My little girl has spent a peaceful winter, her domain safe from the evil riding mower but what is this???  Mummy is going into the shed and poking around the wrong doer!!  She must defend me from this horrible threat and charges the shed, barking fiercely at the tires.

"Quit it!"

Quickly grabbing her Kong, she retreats into the yard to plot her strategy!  It will be a long summer campagin after all!

For as long as we've had her, my little girl has had it in for the riding mower.  She just can't help herself and charges and barks/bites at the wheels (moving or stationary, she doesn't care).  She knows she's not supposed to do this but it's an obsession and one that I briefly worried would mean problems in her BH traffic portion.

No problem there, bicycle, ATV, car she doesn't even turn an ear if those go by her but something about our riding mower sets her off.  Doesn't matter if it's on/off, deck on/off if it's within reach she MUST KILL THE MOWER!!!  Obviously Mummy doesn't understand that the evil mower is going to eat her!!

It's a behavior that is to the point where it's amusing.  A spring/summer ritual of 'BARK BARK BARK "QUIT!" SULK SULK SULK ... BARK BARK BARK "QUIT!"'

So, anyone else's dog have a fun 'quirk' that is just part of their personality -not looking for training issues here, :D- that they'd like to share with the class?

The gal in my sig had a real stubborn streak in her. Teaching her to come when called was quite a challenge.

We eventually licked it, but it was amazing the number of times she'd decide she just HAD to have one more pee before coming.

And, of course, once she'd finished, she'd conveniently FORGET you called her, and start sniffing around again!  :D

My girl got a few funny "quirks" like that. She likes to attack the leaf blower, especially the portion of the tube where the air comes out.

Since she was a little puppy she went every time for the poop scooper rake when it was in use. I strongly discouraged both behavior as I think its part of an unsecureness. The poop scooper she still will do with my hubby when he picks up, even circeling him like she has to herd the scooper team (he is just not very convincing in telling her off)

A nicer quirk is her insistence of playing ball (its a deflated volley ball) with you. Every time we are in the yard, no matter what you got for work to do, she will grabb her ball and place it directly in front of your feet in the hope you will kick it for her. If you keep on walking, she will grabb the ball and try again, placing it directly in your walking path. She then will back up and bark at you. She is very quick and can catch it mid air right at your kick out.

Mine will try to kill the ironing board when I am carrying it folded, doesn't bother with it when I am actually using it, really don't understand that one as it doesn't make a noise or sudden movements.  I can understand him trying to kill the hoover when that goes on, but not an ironing board.:)

Wanna see something funny? Watch me try to mop the kennel around Goofball Jed's kennel run.

I have to get on The Beast this afternoon (aka 1974 International Cub Lowboy with 6' deck) for the first time this year. I am not looking forward to it. No shocks, no springs, bumpy terrain and NO CUP HOLDER FOR MY BEER. No dogs allowed out when I am on that thing. It can throw stones 20' through a brick wall. I can't believe I haven't shattered any windows on  cars passing on the street or the house with it (YET).

When I win the lottery a nice new Kubota with all the cool attachments is at the top of my list. $30K ought to just about do it. ;-D

From day one it was the vac cleaner. Astra would be in the other room and run around the corner and bite the bottom rubber. She would retreat then come at it again barking. She would only do battle with it when it was running. It seemed to be a big game for her.

Always,

Cee

My male popped two tires on my dad's rider when he was about 10 months old.  Ever since we have had to kennel him whenever we are mowing, it was pretty funny seeing my dad driving a mower with tow flats all the way back while yelling at him to stop it since my male was trying to get the rest of them.

Yeah, that's funny, Martin!

The times you wish you had a video camera handy, eh?  :D

Any doggie bed or blanket that I put in my dog's crate, she drags it back out. Sometimes she attacks it and spills her water dish on it. I'm starting to think she doesn't want a doggie bed in her crate. She seems happy to go into her crate after all blankets and doggie beds have been removed.

At the moment one of the cats has taken over the doggie bed which is now at the foot of the human bed. Little cat, big bed.

Another thing my dog does is she grabs the cat's tail and runs around with it in her mouth. Poor poor cat. It's her favorite tail too. It's a purple tail that she ripped off a purple stuffed monkey soon after we brought her home from the shelter. She was no longer than the tail, she'd hold her head way up high and walk with the tail dragging between her legs. She loved that tail. But now it has dog slobber all over it. LOL

Someone should sell purple monkey tails.

I'll admit it, before you explained about the 'tail' I thought you meant the dog liked to grab the cat's actual tail. ;)
