Long story short had a litter of pups when we weaned them the one couldnt get solid food (only liquids). Took her to the vet x-rays show she has Persistant Right Aortic Arch (PRAA). Vet sent us to specialist. Did surgery at 6 weeks old to fix the PRAA. Been doing everything we are supposed to trying to get her healthy. 6 weeks later she still can't get mush down. Took her back to our vet. More x-rays show she had a blind pocket. After a week of trying to get ahold of the surgeon he calls and tells us theres nothing we/ he can do. He said that he ran into the blind pocket when he was operating and was hoping it would fix itself. When we picked her up he didnt say a word to us about the blind pocket.

Am I wrong for being extremely P.O. at him for not telling us about the blind pocket when we picked her up after the surgery ? Has anyone else delt with an issue of the vet or surgeon not telling you everything?
Sadly we have to put her down tomorrow because there's nothing they can do, she still can't swallow solids

You can't trust anyone anymore.
I'd be pissed too.
Sorry for your troubles.

Hi,

I am so sorry to hear that my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I think that is one of the most hardest and painful thing to do and put down a pet you love so dearly. I've lost my boy 2 years ago and it was one of the hardest and most painful things I ever had to witness and deal with. I just hope he didn't feel a thing and he was surrounded by me and the whole family I hope it keept him in good spirits and made it easier on him knowing we are there for him.

I hope she will be in a better place after tomorrow and she will be happy knowing that you and your family tried their best to help her and heal her! :( I am sorry!

Warm regards,

As I have been following up on your puppy I am very sorry to hear this and yes you should be VERY angry with this vet he was very happy to take your cash and he should have told you on discharge about the pocket and your puppies prognosis.

He did speak to you when you picked her up after surgery didn't he? That was when he should have told you, when giving you instructions for post op care, he should have also wanted to see her  a week or so post op just to see that she was coping well with food.

Another little angel at the gate.

Take care, you have a very difficult day ahead, I will be thinking of you both.

You should be PO'd. You paid for the surgery but for any information about what was wrong with your dog. It seems a little shady to me.

I had  xrays of my male GSD hips and elbows done but the vet wanted me to pay although the quality and poistioning of the hips were wrong. I told him that I would not pay for this. He claimed nothing he could have done would help because the dog is HD. I took the same dog to another vet with OFA good. The first vet was recommended by the OFA in Columbia, MO. His excuse was he was very busy that day and that his xray tech was not there! What I am trying to say is ...they tell you what they want you to know and charge you for more than what you ask for. Money is something else!

So sorry to hear things like this happening to a little puppy bearly in the world. This poor little one has already had to deal with this trauma at such a young tender age.I hope that you will have the strength to deal with such a devistating task. You have already done what most would not even think of doing by trying to save her life with the surgery.I will have you both in mind today and i sincerly hope you get through this terrible situation. The puppy will be comfortable with you there by its side.So heartbreaking. All the best for this very difficult time.Yes,the vet should of given you ALL the facts regarding your pups surgery. That is another business with MANY heartless crooks. They prey on our love for our animals.I too have been down this road with crooked vets.

What a shame. I'm so sorry for your loss, & for your puppies suffering. I am blessed with a very caring vet, but I am hearing about these things more & more. Check with your states' Dept. of Professional Licensure, I'm sure they must have standards for disclosure, & certainly for professional ethics. They should be able to assist you to file a formal complaint. When a surgeon finds an inoperable condition during surgery, they are supposed to contact family during the procedure if possible, to help direct their actions. If that is not possible, then the surgeon completes the procedure if possible & not detremental to the outcome, & notifies family. This is the procedure in human cases, I cannot believe it would be too different in animal husbandry.  I will send my prayers out to you today, your puppy will thank you for your strength. I hope you all can find some peace. jackie harris

Oh by the way I forgot to tell ya...

I,d find if there is a board or review or state licenseing board you can contact, thats close to malpractice in my book.

I am so sorry, but please remember you did the best you could do for your puppy. These things are out our hands, I wish we could fix everything that comes along, we can try but it does not always work out. I now this too well, again I am so sorry, you know we would make it  better if we all could. These things are still very raw for me in my private life too.

Always,

Cee
