I understand that an age limit for breeding females has been put in place. Is this fact or a rumour? anyone have any details? Thanks.

I believe the breeding ages in Germany are 20 months for females, and 24 months for males. In my opinion it should be the other way around. (24+ months for females & 20 for males) This is not a new rule, it has always been this way. Regards, Craig

Please let the dogs mature. What is a few more months? I did not know about the rule. I had heard about it but really did not check for myself. (I think that they should be be 24 months)

I look to have a litter when my female is titled this year. She is beautiful and turned 2 on 1 April 09. My male was xrayed recently and has failed hips but he is family. I have been swimming him and up the dosage of Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM. He will be 2 years old in June 2009.  The positioning of the hips were not great so I will have them retaken in July. The hotter months I was told help with the appearance of the hips. He is my baby. I love the GSD beauty. So, at the end of the year I plan on finding a good male to breed her with. I am in no rush. This is a serouis hobby for me. All four of my dogs are from reputable kennels...I do not support back yard breeders but I do not like the large businesses either. My female is Zissa vom Haus Yu if you wanted to see how she looks and her pedigree.

I apologize for the longer than normal posting. I just had surgery and have nothing but time on my hand right now.

Do you know if this is the standard in the other countries?

Sorry for the confusion. i didn't mean an age limit before the first breeding. I had heard there is a limit for age for the last breeding. Is there something in the SV regulations that stipulates the retirement from breeding age?

Thanks

I can find no maximum age mentioned in the breeding regulations for 2008.
