As most of you know, canine and human vision are very different. Dogs see better at night, see motion better, see flickering images better. But they have, on average, only 20/75 vision and they have very limited color vision. In fact, they don't distinguish color from green to red on the color spectrum. To remind you of how limiting that is, see this:

Sort of amazing -- dogs can't see much in the way of color. As most of you know, blaze orange is for the hunter to see, not for the dog to see. Orange is just gray to a dog. But if we want to just exercise our dogs with balls and other projectiles and we want to actually make it easy for them to see those toys thrown far (they can't see far, as you surely have noticed) or thrown in the woods or tall grass -- we need BLUE toys.
So -- who knows a good supplier of appropriately colored (ie BLUE!) bumpers and other throw toys?
I am getting tired of swimming in cold spring water or climbing through thorns to point out blaze orange bumpers.
Thanks.

They have noses that work just fine and even with color, once it is not moving it is not much visually to them.
Maybe your dog just does not want to go swimming or climb through thorns.
But to answer your question you can buy just about any color you want at gundogsupply

BLUE for physical training/ exercise and BLAZE ORANGE to force the dog to scent/hunt.
Something for both purposes. The dog can see the blue bumpers and will therefore put in more reps with less rest this way, will less searching water/field because the other colors are so dim.
Thanks.

MVF----I know....you want to focus on vision color response, but I just can't help veering off slightly and telling you of a great exercise ball I discovered. You get 2 to a pack. It's orange and BLUE rubber. The name of this fabulous find----Ultra Ball. Check out www.chuckit.com (hit products, then scroll down to ultra ball). They'll last forever unless you do something stupid like play near a sewer drain. I was downright despondent when I lost one, seeing how much they are loved around here. Immediately jumped in my car and drove to Pet Supplies Plus. Got lucky......they were still available and even 1/2 price, so I purchased 3 packets. God....I sound like an ad. (lol)
Now to orient my post with the topic------You see the orange and they see the blue. Pick some up. You won't be sorry.
