His name is Bo, and he was a gift from Ted Kennedy, who apparently has a few himself. I'm glad, hope they hire a good trainer, porties can be fiesty but on a whole pretty good dogs. Thoughts, opinions?

Portuguese Water Dog. Presidential choices haven't tended to spark interest in a breed à la Disney movies. Hopefully, that tendency will continue with this breed. I don't think the gene pool is big enough for mass interest to bode well.

There is an article in the Washington Post about the First Dog.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...041102652.html

Also, there seems to be an anonymous leak (WaterDogGate?) with a website to match at http://firstdogcharlie.com

At least it's not some doodle.

I was hoping they would get an Irish Water Spaniel.

Here he is.  They renamed him "Bo".

Meet Bo, the First Dog

In case anybody is wondering, Bo is a boy.

According to the nightly news, poor Bo was returned to the breeder and is being re-homed in the White House.

Mystery is correct that the gene pool in this country cannot tolerate a mass buying of this breed.  I had read a report on it a few years back.

The president of the company I used to work for owns one and had a high regard for the breed, however, he had him trained at TOPS here in IL. so he never really delt with puppy corrections ect.  Must be nice to have those kind of bucks.
