Hi All,

Maybe a silly question but is it normal for a 9 1/2 week old pup to have had perfect ears up for a week and now one is flopped down??

Thanks

Give the pup some pig skin ears to chew or some beef chews. They will chew and strengthen the jaw muscles and muscles that strengthen the ears.  It worked for me for all my pups.

yes,it is normal. That is when I start hide and seek with whistles, howls and just calling their name. You will see them strain their ears to find were the sound is coming from. When they find you give them a nice treat or toy. They love this game and works on all their senses, and tracking.

I think half the fun of a German Shepherd pup,is the"ear"stage  The pic on top is yesterda, the bottom one was taken 3 weeks ago.

When my pup was 5 months old, I started worrying about her ears.  One would go up, down, up down.  I taped it with some styrofoam pipe insulation inside, but it didn't last more than a day or two.  I tried a small stryofoam paint roller.  I tried toilet paper rolls -c ut and formed.  The other dogs kept "assisting" to remove it.  I didn't waqnt to separate the dogs for long enough for the ear to set, so I decided, if it stayed down - so be it.  Then it started coming up by itself.  This dog is 9 months old now and the damn ear has been going up in small increments every day.  For the last day or two, it's almost completely up.  Go fgure.  There was never any problem with my other GSDs.  I wonder also if it is because this dog is MUCH more stout - thicker boned, thicker bodied, waaay heavier than my other two, if that body took more energy to form, taking away the extra it may have needed for that damn ear....
