There is finally going to be a schutzhund club close enough for me to go to training at and I need to get the basic equipment that is needed to start off with. I am told I should get a harness,a 30ft tracking lead, fur saver,I am going to get a leather leash too. How long should the leather leash be? I am used to working with my dog on a 6ft cotton web and I also already have a 4 ft leather leash. As for the harness, how would I measure for the correct size? It was mentioned to me that there is a harness made for german shepherd dogs that fits a variety of size dogs. Can I use one type of harness for protection and tracking both? I have seen at different websites that some have harnesses specifically for tracking while others have some made specifically for protection. I have a limited budget with which to purchase my start up equipment but I also want decent quality stuff so it will last me. I did a message board search but I could not find any threads that mentioned about where to purchase all this stuff. Maybe i wasnt searching under the correct thread subject line? Thanks for any help!

I deal with Jim Hill at Hallmark K9. Jim is great to deal with and has excellent equipment. He usually ships the same day and I get my order within 2 -3 days. I can't say enough good things about him.

Jim is the only one I know who competes and supports Schutzhund for as long as Jim has been in the sport. He's been around longer than most of them combined (ray allen excluded).... He also stands by what he sells..

Give Jim a call, he is helpfull and knows about the products because he actually trains and titles dogs, not just sells training stuff!!!

I also recommend Jim Hill / Hallmark K9. I've been in the sport for 16 years and have always bought from him - Jim and his products are top of the line - I have the same harness I've had for over 10 years now, never really maintained it and it's good to go, adjustable from 50 lb puppies to 95 lb males. If something isn't right Jim will make it right.
I get my long-lines from Muffi Waldman - she makes them and can make them in any length, thickness and color - Can't go wrong.
