I'm amazed at the people who advertise with false hip ratings.    Especially when listing OFA or SV ratings.  It is so easy to look up and search those sites.  If a person can't be honest about that, I sure would not believe anything else they claimed.

Back off the soapbox for now.

Yep, been there done that - interested in two stud dogs (two different owners/ years/ situations) - one claimed the dog was OFA Excellent - checked him out and he wasn't even OFA'd at all - he was a-fast normal.  The other one the owner said was OFA Good - he was also not OFA at all, in fact a-fast normal.  I didn't use either of them.  What else might the owner be hiding?  Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy.

dog traiders are just as bad, if not worse, then horse traider or used car salesmen.

let the buyer beware.

Same thing happened to me last year. I inquired about two well known dogs on a webpage stated OFA good hips, nada/
Other dog was listed on the pedigree database with hip Excellent and never been OFA or SV rated at all.

SInce then have also found three more breeders advertisements, well known kennels, same.

I remember one of our members here bought a titled dog and found out one of the titles was not so, not ever recored with the SV and they searched and never found it either.  Seller said she never checked it and breeder still claims it has a SchH3 title but SV has no recored of it.. Evident that sometimes a breeder passes info and the second seller
never did paperwork check.  If you ask for paperwork and go to the site or talk to the German lady who handles the AKC/german SV records, they can tell you no or yes.

People are use to the old adage of trusting and A MANS WORD and a HANDSHAKE  are no longer trustworthy. Even notorized papers are forged.

My vets are positively anal about checking ear tattoos against papers, but I wonder how many others either do not pay close attention or can be "convinced" to look the other way? I suspect the fraud, dog substitution is more common than most people think, and rampant in breeds not normally tattooed. My vets say they have caught more than a few people from out-of-area bringing in dogs for OFA that are clearly not even the age represented, especially retrievers, but a few GSD's as well. They seem to think a country doctor doesn't know or care as much as the big-city ones.
WRONG.

I brought this topic up because I recently saw a male advertised for stud.  As the dogs name looked familier I looked at the ad and pedigree.  He was listed as SV a1 hips.  This made me interested even more as so many in the U.S. don't bother going SV unless they are serious in the sport, as this person was not.  Sooooo, I go over the SV site and do a search.   Hmmmmm.  The ONLY dog listed with that kennel name is one of mine.  LOL.  I'm guessing this stud dog has not been submitted to SV for hips or elbows.  Giving the benefit of doubt, I then looked up on OFA site.  Nope, not there either.

I just wish people could be honest about the basics......

My vet will not use a tattoo he cannot read he is very ethical. As far as checking sometimes the OFA site is hard to use and the SV updates quarterly. I have no problem faxing or scanning my dogs original report to a client or someone interested.

Unfortunatly, honesty is hard to find these days..

I say always make sure you check the records before you breed.  This happenned to me once checking for a stud, the girl said the dog was OVC..well no records found.  Very funny she could not find the original certification also.

Of course I didn't use him but I could have believed her..that's ashame!

I use OFA for all my dogs.   How do I check SV hip scores?  Can you give me the web site?
thanks
