$35. /session + hotel and gas is way too stiff for me or anyone I know right now. This economy is killing most of us.
Bummer.

Sounds like a great opportunity to train with a great helper.  $35.00 is a fair price... I'll be there.

Thank you Malinrock.  I look forward to hearing from you and getting some good/fun training in over the next month.

I would like to ask Ms. Strohl what she thinks a fair price to charge for high quality helper work is?  Tobias has done the helper work on Dr. Raiser's current dog, Finch von Loyola.  Just so happens that Finch put up the highest Landesgruppe score, 98-96-99, 293 in qualifying for the 2007 Bundessieger Prufung.  Dr. Raiser chose not to participate in protest of the SV.  Finch also won the 2008 Master's Tournament  97-93-94, 284.  What would you pay for high quality helper work?

So I'm guessing since I haven't heard back from Ms. Strohl that she hasn't come up wth a figure yet.  We tried to keep this training as user friendly as we could.  Flying Tobias in on our dime and putting him up for a month and paying the guy for his time comes with a price.  I don't know who your helper is or how far you intend on going with your dog but, $35 is very competitive with premium helper work in this country.  I have trained with some pretty good helpers/decoys over the years, Bill Kulla, Randy Rhodes, Ivan Balabanov, Wallace Payne, Jan Kokx, Ken White, Mike Diehl, Clark Niematalo, James Laney, Fernando Dosta, Joachim Dovat and I'm in a hurry so I can't list any more right now.  If I have forgotten anyone, I apologize and I thank you for the help.  All of these gentleman will charge you at least that much and more whether you are driving cross town or flying around the world.

Again, I ask you, what fee do you think is appropriate for someone of Tobias' caliber?  This is not a club helper who just bought a bag of Ray Allen equipment, this is a personal helper for one of the best Schutzhund trainers in the world.  I wouldn't dream of asking him to work for any less, that would be an insult.

True to form Phil, you're being argumentative.  She did say hotel and gas also. Protection sessions from various trainers in the Chicagoland area run from $20-50, so this is well within the market, but travel is painfully costly.

Lets say someone decides to come up and work for a week, from a few states over.   Lets guess on the cheap side for $50 a night for hotel. 6 nights = $300. I can fill up my small SUV for about $25-$30. Depending on where you're coming from and how much gas is, it could cost $100-200+. Now, if you're a working stiff like me, you have to take off work, too.  Food is expensive on the road.  Add 2-3 sessions a day at $35 (something I would pay, btw) and you come up to quite a chunk of change, as as Shelley said, times are rough.  Don't take it so personally.

To be honest, I'm quite sorry I don't have a dog who is at a point in their training where I could come up, I personally am only about an hour away. Will there be any opportunity for spectators?

Apparently you know me and therefore you must know that the last thing I want to do is be argumentative.  Obviously I am aware of the economy, we all are in the same boat.  I would assume that if someone were not interested or worse, couldn't afford it, that they would say nothing.  I took the comments as an accusation that I was overcharging for Herr Kiel's services.  My answer was a question, what fee do you think is fair for asking the mechanic of the Indy 500 winner  to help you build your racing machine?

To answer your spectator question politely and eloquently, yes, if you are a friend of mine, and agree with everything I say, you can observe for free.  However, if you argue with me, the fee is $100 and you don't get to use the bathroom.

Let's put this in perspective. In numerous previous posts Shelley has done her "poor me" routine; she couldn't afford to repair her computer so she had to literally scrounge one here, she didn't have any clients so she was broke, her van was crap, dog food was too expensive, she had no puppies to sell, ad nauseum.

Why should passive-aggressive whining from someone that can't rub two nickles together influence what Tobias is worth?

Shelley truly but mistakenly believes the GSD world centers around her. Go back through this messageboard and you'll see she makes all the threads about her. Count the time you find the letter "I" in her posts. She believe's she significant when in fact by any measure she's just a lower-tier Schutzhund pretender.

I don't mean to be unkind Shelley, but fool the fans, not the players.

$35 a session is more than fair for a hlper of that caliber. Sounds like a great training opportunity.

Just a reminder, Tobias will be arriving tomorrow, Tuesday.  Anyone attending the USA Sieger Show here in Arlington Hts., IL, that wants some excellent helper work, give me a call.  847.420.6208 cell.  Also, we have probably one of the best training fields you will find.  I personally planted 800 lbs. of Kentucky Bluegrass athletic turf on a reclaimed 565' x 245' corn field 2 1/2 years ago and it's really coming into it's own.  http://www.malinoisdogs.com/OSK_Rental.htm

We are located 1 hour NW of the Sieger Show grounds just off of Interstate 90 on 40 acres.  Plenty of room to exercise and let your dogs stretch or even swim in our 4-5 (depending on the rain!) acre lake.  We will be setting up ring training for those who need to get some worry free additional work in, and of course we will have Tobias, a personal helper to Dr. Helmut Raiser http://www.malinoisdogs.com/OSK_Tobias.htm on hand for safe experienced helper work.

To schedule an appointment for training or field time, please call 847.420.6208 or E-mail phil@oakspringkennels.com

Phil

PS  Anyone in the area that just wants to schedule SchH trial work, that's what we're about and the main reason we have brought Tobias over.  We will be training every day, including weekends.  Don't miss this opportunity.
