Hello All,
I have an 11 month old GSD who is currently working on getting his Bh and Sch1 ( will be going for 3 some day hopefully.)
Anyway, I live in Hawaii and am thinking about putting him in an AKC conformation show to see how he scores. However, I am not a "dog show" person and have no idea how I go about registering. I have dates and judge names but I can't find out where I register?  He is AKC registered obviously and I have found him to be an excelent dog all around.  He is strong on the field as well as I believe conformationally sound. Any advise would be great, Thanks

Go here to see a list of AKC events:
http://www.akc.org/events/search/

The website should also tell you the contact info for registration.

And be warned, you will have great difficulty winning a ribbon in an AKC show with a German style GSD. The American style dogs look NOTHING like the German!

My bitch is half and half, and I've been told even she looks 'too German' to win any points!

There was a thread on the database not too long ago, asking if there were any Schutzhund titled dogs with AKC championships. I think we came up with only a handful of dogs.

Try to find a conformationshow for GSDs usually hosted by a club registered with WDA or UScA often judged by an SV judge. This will give you a conformation rating on your dog no matter if you place first or last in your dogs age group. This will prepare you also for a breed survey and Koerklasse, in which your strived for titles better suit. Registration would be with the host club.

In AKC conformation its all about earning points towards a Champion title. You may never earn any even though there is nothing wrong with your dog, and this can be very dissappointing. AKC could care less about if you have a BH or SCHH on your dog, or even if your dog is of sound temperament. If you still want to try (and there is nothing wrong with it), find your local Kennel club, (that would be an all breed club). AKC conformation shows are usually hosted by those clubs which will publish a brochure about the different entry classes, this is often called a "Premium". It includes also the registration you have to send back to the club to register.

A database of AKC shows you can find on www.infodog.com. Go to "Showinformation", then click on "search by state", then click on HI for Hawaii (its below the US...lol). This gives you all the upcoming shows. Conformation shows are often combined with Rally/Obedience. Its not required to enter all, its just offered. You can click on the short cuts to get an explanation. You can also click on the name of the club which gives you the contact info. "Closed" means you cannot register for that show anymore. Good luck!

You need to get a premium for the show you are interested in.. most clubs use the commercial trial sec'y and most now have online registration...

However, most GSD's in AKC conformation events are handled by a professional and they want them trained before they get them ......and I wouldn't give a flip about what an AKC judge thought about my dogs .... I see what they are putting up and those are NOT what a GSD is supposed to look like!!

Even some of the european judges are going to extremes but I do show my dogs in German conformation shows and breed surveys.....

Good luck with your dog.

Here are some links to show superintendents who can get you information on upcoming shows (where, when, how much, who's judging, and the entry forms).  You must enter the shows by using an official entry form from either a Show Superintendent or a Show Secretary, whichever way that club is doing it.  All shows have entry deadlines which must be adhered to.

Jack Bradshaw does mainly the USA West Coast so that might be most helpful to you:
