If you travel back to the U.S.  with your puppy or dog; do you still have to clear custom's?

I'm not a lawyer, and may be wrong on this one, but you are bringing something of value back to the states that must have a health certificate to enter the country. The health certificate and animal must clear customs. My guess is that you will need a broker to clear now. Better safe than sorry, just call Lufthansa or Delta and check it out .Delta has a pet shipping division here in the states and they were very knowledgable the last time I talked with them.

If you travel with the dog as baggage you will clear customs but will not require a broker to enter the country.

If you ship the dog in cargo you will need a broker at both ends. A broker in Germany would be Gradlyn Kennels et al. You will be required to contact a broker in the States, a list of whom will be supplied by Homeland Security.

I just did this (cargo) 3 weeks ago in Atlanta.

Lenny,

Is there a limit on how many dogs you can bring as luggage? I have a puppy and an older female that I will be travelling with.
