My dog has recently started biting at her feet. She's 13 months. She doesn't do it all the time only when she first settles in.
She then will start with the rear foot that is on top, putting the whole foot in her mouth and gently kind of chewing & mouthing it. When I stop her she then goes into the kind of biting fleas bite (if you know what I mean) you know, the kind of surface biting?? When I stop her from her hind leg she then moves to a front foot after I've left her. She doesn't have fleas, nothing's changed...I just don't know why she has all of a sudden started doing this??
Has anyone had anything similar or can shed any light on maybe why she's doing this?
Thanks,
Jen

Have you checked whether she has itchy red skin between her toes?

Yes, I've checked her feet, inside & out and I don't see anything. All feet look normal. She just really mouths her feet & gently chews them and then there is a wet spot beneath. She's not chewing like she would a raw hide or bone, Just mouthing/chewing.

Hello, Are you using any powder/cleaners on carpets to help clean or freshen? That your dog might be picking up residue on her paws.
Just another thought, what is her diet? (I seem to remember that certain foods or ingredients in foods can produce a paw licking/chewing impulse).
Regards,
Vixen

Vixen,
Nope. No powders or anything. We have hard wood floors. She is fed Fromm Adult Gold and I mix in a little of Solid Gold canned food every feeding 2x a day

Hi again Jen,
As she recently had any vaccinations? (If so, might have had an allergic reaction to them).
Equally, you ruled out fleas, is that because she has recently had any flea treatment, (again she may have had an adverse reaction to the treatment).
Certain ingredients in foods can have an allergic build-up in some dogs. Have you recently altered her diet in any way? (If so, check out the ingredients for a link to allergy).
There is also a probability to the Seasons, like us with Hay Fever, dogs can be susceptible to the seasonal changes!
Kind regards,
Vixen

Vixen,
No, she hasn't had any vaccines.
She doesn't have fleas, I've checked her over but now that you mention it I did put fronline on her about 2 weeks ago.
However, I've used Frontline before and she hasn't done this.
So, it could be a change in the seasons? All our snow is pretty much gone now.
If it is a reaction to the Frontline, is there anything I can do about it or will it just slowly subside?
Thanks,
Jen
