Some ideas:
There was a lot of support from them for the WDA NASS last fall, they may be "donated out" or investing more in their local shows than we are aware of. West Conn has a big one coming up this weekend. It takes time effort and funds to put on a Regional. If the local members are cash poor, the bigger guys will support more locally. We all make our donation choices where we can, just like our charity preferences.
We could still use ~$2000 in trophy donations to make up the cost of the trophies. Open invitation here....

Hope they all buck up and give something back for they reap.

I can't say I agree as I contribute within my club to both as I can afford it, whether I have a dog entered or not. Clubs coming together with each member contributing a few bucks gives some buying/donation power. Maybe they do not have a trophy fund drive as organized as Mittelwest's amoung the team members.
Also remember there are a lot of ways the "famous" breeders and clubs sponsor both organizations over the year, WUSV donations, time and energy, advertising money for the catalog and the USA magazine as well as getting the entry numbers up. You will see Mittelwest involved in all, especially with this Sieger Show in the backyard this year, they want to see it succeed regardless of trophies broght home. Remember, show expenses for these large kenels include things the main street guy does not have to deal with, importing handlers, per diems for them, hotel bills for them ect.
I have noticed trophy sponsorship for the USA Sieger Show being very weak year after year. That can't all be chalked up to the big kennels not contributing, its the responsibility of the host club to sell these sponsor ship oppurtunities and get the money rolling in. By all intents and purposes, the sponsorship should come from as many non-member organizations as possible to lift the burden from the ENITRE memebership. After having myself and four other people send out 125+ letters and phone calls to try and get the trophies sponsored, I can tell you it is not an easy task! I have resorted to calling some of my business contacts for help and the answer from them as well as about 99% of the phone calls, "your not a bona fide charity, sorry". Its not an easy task.

Chuckles you just asked questions that no one has been intelligent enough to ask or to chickenshit to ask. When it comes to the big kennels you have heard of "too big to fail" well in this case "it's too big to criticize." Instead of kissing the butts of these people who are earning their living off these dogs let's take a really good look at what's going on. They give nothing back to the sport and are taking with both hands. Like Baldursmom said, even one of the kennels that is donating for a trophy is having the members of the team paying for it. The owner of the kennel isn't paying for it. It's the person with one or two dogs paying for the trophies and in many cases these kennels have their teams pay through various fees pay for their entries, hotel rooms etc. Give something back! You gotta be kidding! This may very well be the demise of the sport in this country eventually. Soon we will have only 4-5 large kennels at these sieger shows. It has been getting that way every year. I see more and more big kennel dogs and less dogs from the smaller breeder or the hobby breeder. Maybe the big kennels don't care or even want it that way. Soon they will be out there just competing against each other but that is extremely short sighted. If that comes to pass what will happen to their puppy market and the sport as a whole in this country. Not to mention it is only a numbers game for these big ,well financed (by the teams and many puppy sales) how knowledgable a breeder, how much do you need to know about blood lines etc. when you are breeding 15-20 litters a year. With that many puppies being produced something is bound to be good. That's just the law of big numbers. Show me a breeder having only a few litters a year breeding a VA dog and that will truly be impressive and there are some that have. My hats off to them! If you want to have a sport where only the people who do it for their livelyhood and breed many, many litters have success at these sieger shows in this country, well you've got it. Have fun at the show and don't even expect them to give anything back. It will just be a huge disappointment. Just keep on pretending it isn't happening and enjoy it for as long as it lasts. Back in the day, the mid nineties when the sieger shows first started in this country the entries increased every year because the sport was growing. Now it the entries are huge and/or growing it's simply because these kennels are producing even more and more puppies and growing larger and bemoming bigger business. That also means that a lot of these many, many puppies are dyspastic, have EPI or other problems (I know breeders don't set out to breed sick puppies or genetic disasters but again it's a numbers game. Out of that many puppies you will have many with problems.) These are foisted of on an unsuspecting public as a pet or onto the newbie as their new showdog or foundation breeding female.. Ask yourself. Does that bode well for the future of this sport in this country?
