Has anyone had a dog shipped from Serbia/Montenegro to the US? I am looking at a 1 yr old GSD and they say the shipping costs will be $1430.00 euro. This seems awefully high shipping costs to me.

First, shipping overseas tends to be prohibitively expensive. A large dog will be considerably more than a puppy. If we send animals overseas, we usually do several at that time.
Second, if anyone does "pad" the price, it is often because of the impression that Americans are either financially well-off or (more likely) gullible. I don't know anyone personally who does this but they are out there.
$1700 to $1900 USD sounds about right. (Keep an eye on the exchange rate.)

There have been some questionable business practices on here from Serbia so you should be careful.
