Kool, look at my thread on the same topic.  It says DE in the thread title.

You don't apply to the dog, just your yard.

I spray it in my lawn and part way in (around) my dog kennels. It does not harm the dog's at all, but eats the heck out of ticks, etc. Kel www.boeselagerkennel.com

The DE yes, the nematodes don't go on the dog.

I have used it for lice on chickens and worms in horses.
Both it has worked great for.It has very small glass like blades it breaks through the exo skeleton of the parasite .
I have never used it for dogs. I have read they have used it in all animals and even humans.

This stuff is amazing.  We've been using it for 2.5 years now at two different locations.

The first time around I used a small 20$ yard sprayer, about a cup of DE per gallon, and sprayed all around the ouside of the house and everywhere the dogs regullary walked and that one treatment kept ticks away for nearly 2 years.

However, those small sprayers are not good for covering a large area..takes forever and they tend to clog.   We recently bought a house on 5acres, most of it heavily wooded, inclusing the large fenced in back yard.    We we moved in we were pulling 4 ticks or more off our 4 sib hukies a day.  I gave up on the small sprayers and got a large 4 gallon roundup backback sprayer for 100 bucks and this worked -great-.

Problem with DE is that is is not that persistent, especially after a long or hard rain.   After about 3 weeks of no ticks at all they started to creep back after a couple days of steady rain.....so and I came up with a -much- quicker way of distibuting the DE over a large area.

This is the fun part... a Leaf blower.   Leaf blowers intake is speperate from the engine and most are built to be able to suck up leaves as well a blow them..so it's more or less harmless to the blower.   All I do now is stand out on the deck with a big cup or container of DE and go to town!   I just shake the DE near the intake and it sucks it up.   It's like having a flame thrower for bugs.   Spews out a huge cloud of the stuff that settles on everything.  Works much better spraying...you get 100% coverage of the area and you end up using a lot less of it as well.

Obviously you would want to do this on a day with little or calm winds and also better to do right after a rain when everything is damp and the DE will readily stick to it.  It tends to create a low hanging haze that slowly settles or difts, depending on the wind.     No more ticks again....just go out there every few weeks and takes about a minute to hose the entire 100x100 back yard in and then some, probably cover a good acre just standing in one place.

This new technique is still 'testing' as I've only been doing it for a few weeks, but so far our 4 dogs are again tick free.   You can also shake DE on them as well, we do this too when warranted.

works great

outside, sprinkle in grass and shrubberies must be reapplied after each rain.

inside, sprinkle on carpet, go out of town for the weekend, come home and vacuum

fleas should be dead.
