Has anyone done or witnessed the UKC's protection routine(s) yet? If so do they use a sleeve or suit and what was your opinion on the quality of the testing done? It seems super conservative and more about control than anything, having only 1 bite, all onleash and the majority of the time, the dog must be friendly even to the helper, even greeting the helper twice, once in the next excersize after just biting him.
I gotta say I really hate preping for stuff I haven't watched.

Wow, preping for puppy testicles wasn't what I was looking for but OK!

Check youtube, there are videos of the excercises on there. I read the rules, the dog doesnt have to be "friendly" just not engage the helper. I believe the dog can bark but will get deducted for barking the entire time. Check on the website, it has a pretty thorough explanation of the rules and exercises as well as deductions and faults. I just glanced though it the other day, didnt spend much time on it though.

I read the whole thing, dog has to be pretty much push button from the sounds of it. Only barking when commanded and stopping as soon as commanded. To me Neutral is "friendly" that's about as friendly as my dog gets with strangers. As long as the guy doesn't have equipment on I don't see a problem but it doesn't specify stuff like that. Wish I did this 6 months ago because he's starting to remember who screwed with him and not forgiving them, like when he was younger. I'm a bit worried about the 2 freindly helper scenario, since it comes after an alert, a attack on handler and the defense of handler right after the bite and he comes out from behind the blind on the approach. I'm not worried about the rest of the trial.
I'll try to find something on Youtube.

Have you contacted anyone that has trialed yet? I know Mark Boggs in Springfield, IL has trialed a few dogs. He's a pretty good guy and likes to talk about his dogs (with good reason, he has some nice dogs) so Im sure he would be willing to tell you all about it. I don't have his phone number anymore but Im sure you could look it up.

Four members of our club went down to Tennesee for Helper/Judges seminar. Our club had three helpers certified over two days. some of the helper are more threatening than the youtube video. When you get to Pd 1 and 2 you get to some real nice action that pushes your dog. P-1 is done in full suit and in Pd1,2 , done can do leg bites but you must inform judge.

My dog Xeus has his P1 and PD1, i am also one of the helpers that was certified in TN. The dog has to be controlled. Yes it is all done with the suit even the greetings. The new helpers were given scores on how good they where for the lack of a better term. No disrespect to anyone at the certification. Also the testing is soppose to be to actually test the dog. If the helper can run the dog then run em. This testing is for dogs that would make PPD's or good PSD candidates.

I'd like to do the PD1, is it allowed to do it the same day or day after getting the P1?
