Today at the park we noticed Lukas had a tick, any quick advice on how to remove it properly on our own, we know to burn it, but anything else?

You can suffocate it with petroleum jelly!  Completely cover the tick with a big blob of the stuff... leave for 15 mins... hey presto, dead tick.

Grasp it as near the head as possible with tweezers and slowly pull. Don't try to burn it On the dog!

I have always heard that a tweezer helps to get it all.You must remove it TOTALLY without a break. You should also contact a Veterinarian as soon as possible to ask what course of action you should be taking for this dog so he is not in danger of the desease.Im sorry but thats all I can offer.

HEAT NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS OVER BURNER. WHEN HOT USE TO PULL THE TICK  RIGHT OFF. WILL COME OFF EASILY.

When using the tweezers, give a SLIGHT twist as you pull it out. A little dab of antibiotic ointment never hurts, too. I check to see the head, (super YUK) and flush it away. I would NEVER try to burn a tick on a dog! And I don't have the patience to smother one with vasoline.

Ronnie, have you ACTUALLY used your hot needlenose on DINKY???? And guess what, I have an uncle who named his GSD Dinky!    Waddyaknow it's such a small world after all.

Use tweezers.
Burning the tick may cause it to vomit into the dog's bloodstream, increasing the risk of disease to the dog.

Using oil won't make the tick back out, they store plenty of air before they embed themselves for feeding.

Just use tweezers and grasp the tick firmly, as close to the skin as possible.  Don't twist- just pull.

THE NOSE ON THE END OF NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS IS MADE FOR ACCURATE AND DELICATE WORK. WHEN RED HOT THE NOSE WILL GRIP THE TICK AND IT COMES RIGHT OFF.  HAVE REMOVED OVER 50 TICKS ON MY DINKUMS WINKUMS ALONE. PROBABLY REMOVED THOUSANDS OFF  DOGS CATS GIRLFRIENDS AND MYSELF. HAD TO USE THE MIRROR A WEEK AGO. HAD A BIG FULL TICK STUCK BEHIND MY EAR LOBE. CANT EAT SNICKERDOODLES WITH TICK FEVER.

IT MAY BE HARD TO BELIEVE BUT WHEN IT COMES TO TICKS AND YEAST. I HAVE HAD WAY MORE EXPERIENCE THAN ANYONE.

How about a nice lemon meringue pie? I always have a hankerin' for one myself this time of year, when all the ticks wake up.
