It seems like about 80% of the people I have spoke to or met regarding schutzhund, are women. Thats great! Finally a sport I come across that women love. Little did i know when i first got interested in the sport that women would make up a huge portion of it. I was expecting to be dealing with some backwoods, rough edged men that chose a dog over their wives. I was shocked when it wasnt. So i have a lot of respect for a woman that can train a dog for hours everyday doing bitework and workin up a sweat. Its the perfect sport for a single man. I love it.

It wasn't like that when I started back in the 80's.
No, not at all.

Yes, Shelley,
when I began with the dogsport in Germany, there were only men in the dogsport. This was in the 70's.
But now, in our club are more women working with their dogs.

WHAT A WONDERFUL ERA WE LIVE IN. DOGWOMEN ARE FANTASTIC AND SO HOT. THEY SPEND LOTS OF TIME IN THE HEAT AND SUN. REMINDS ME OF MY FAVORITE MEAL OF CHICKEN FRIED STEAK IN BATTER WITH COUNTRY GRAVY AT KFC.

I think that the older women in the sport have definetely paved the way for us younger women. You guys are the ones that did us a favor by putting up with all the prejudices and everything from the older harder men.

I think that our generation should be thanking you guys more than we do.

on the flip side of this, the women will set your ass straight harder and faster than the men will. i think it is a great thing that a woman can compete in a sport right beside a 6 foot 3 inch, 260 pound man, and have just as good of a chance of winning.

Bobbyc? Damn! What a REFRESHING perspective! Thank you! If you attend the USA Nationals in Iowa, there is a glass of champagne for you on me. :-) You are right, nearly every club in this country has a much larger percentage of women to men. Women helpers, OTOH, are few and far between. One of them, Emily, just got her first Sch title, after a lot of hard work and heartbreak along the way. (Check out her thread, New Sch 1). SilverJudge, you're talking about Shelley, right? :-) Yep, she had to deal with a few real throwbacks. I've met a couple of them in their older incarnations and I still don't understand why Shelley didn't shoot them when they were younger and probably more obnoxious. LOL

New, to the sport.
I really like it!   Trying it with my first WL GSD.
RONNIE,  even though I  bitched at you earlier on another thread, your really funny.  I always look for your humor.
Sorry about the earlier comment about your avitar.

If I got myself back into shape and got the back strong enough I'd love to give helper work a try!  Only have taken a bite or two here and there and loved it!  From what I've heard need a lot of upper body strength.

I find Schutzhund very rewarding, it is not easy work, I worked my freaking butt off. Astra was a high drive female that had talents that needed to be shown off, I wanted that much for her. I agree there was alot of areas that women had poor representation in. I was a bra burner back in the late 60's early 70's and still a tough old bitch, with a heart to still nuture the young ones. Bobby keep up the good work and it is nice you respect women.

Always,
Cee
