I have 5 month old puppy , when should be the best time to introduce chock chain for him, at the moment,  when I bring him for walk I am using nylon collar. Any suggestion type of chock chain I should use?   Thanks and regards

what would be your reasoning for putting a choke collar on him?  what behavior problem is he having to warrant a choke?

I prefer the martingal type collar, especially for a young pup.  I would ue a choke till they were closer to a year old, unless this is an extremely hard, dom, inant pup.  and yank/crank style handling won't help much if he is

A training collar will not help it you just let them pull anyway.  I agree, I have a couple sizes of martingales and use them on my grown up dogs too at times.  It's more how you use the collar then what collar.

I would get a martingale style pinch collar for his size.

have you started any obed. training?  that will def. help the situation.  teaching him to heel, and the "watch" (concentrate on you command) should stop alot of that behavior.  but the pinch will stop the pulling.  get involved in obed. classes (group or single) with a decent trainer.

I live out in the country, so we don't really have many cars passing like you would in the city, but If I am out for a walk with my dogs, and a car is coming, I put them in the heel, sitz position until the car passes.  but it isn't too feasible in a city enviroment where lots of cars are passing.

the pinch won't choke him, but it will def. get his attention if used right.

Is the martingale style pinch collar is the same as the prong collar?

Do you guys use it on a sport prospect pup?

Thanks.

Try a Halti or Gentle Leader head collar.

Do some obedience training with your pup if you are not already doing this. He's just going to get bigger and stronger, so you want him to learn he has to obey you now while you still are stronger than him.  Depending on how strong he is and how strong you are a martingale type collar might work or you may want to go to a pinch collar. The pinch does not require strength to deliver a correction and is not "mean". If you opt for the pinch collar, get the Herm Sprenger brand and buy a couple of extra links you can add as he grows. Just google Herm Sprenger and you'll find lots of places sell them.  Any place that sells them should also include instructions on how to measure your dog to order one.

Whichever collar you choose, please do obedience work with your pup too.

I use the pinch or prong collar on dogs who like to pull and jerk the leash.  and I used it when I took our big male rottie into public.  not cause he needed it, because he would mind simply by using my voice, but I used it anyway since he was soo big and strong.
