How many of you start new pups with clicker training?  My breeder just showed me some videos of her clicker training pups.  It interests me quite a bit.

If you do so, do you see a the pups learning quicker?  Does it give them an edge with the basics?

How do you start this (if you do so), I'm neve done any clicker training, but am always willing to learn something new.

In my opinion, there is no better way to train young pups than by clicker training. They learn extremely fast, begin to think and grow up full of enthusiasm and without fear of trying out new things. They are like little sponges and full of eagerness to learn and do. I train all my pups with the clicker starting at less than 8 weeks of age to help them through the "learning phase" of the what the words of basic obedience commands mean within a couple of months.

In fact, psychologically, clicker training makes the pup think that IT is making YOU click & treat by its actions - hence the abundance of enthusiasm.

Thanks Shezam1, what I've seen so far has intrigued me.  I've never used a clicker, but with help from my breeder, I think I may try it.

I've also seen several video's posted by others, and am impressed with the enthusiasm the pups show.

Now all I need to do is read up on it.  I've no idea how to begin!

I train all my dogs from day 1 (7 weeks) with the clicker, I start with sendaway, static positions cantilevered down, stand, sit, recall, retrieve etc etc.

A very detailed and well written book is "Clicker Training for Obedience" by Morgan Spector which perhaps covers all there is to know about clicker training dogs.

Clicker training is fun.  My dog loves it when the clicker comes out.  Try it !
