The SV system is slowly developing here in the UK, and much more needs to be done. The SV "dental notation" system has not been introduced, even though I requested a WUSV Club to do this over 2 years ago. I despair when such simple and yet vital SV systems are ignored by the WUSV Clubs. There should be an annual programme introduced here in the UK, by the WUSV Clubs.

1) First a seminar to explain the SV breeding qualification process and requirements
then the programme to achieve the qualifications - scheduled throughout the year
All dogs over 18mths? to have SV 'a' stamp for Hips & Elbows, SV DNA test, Tattoo,
2) an AD (endurance test)
3) a BH test (traffic of life test)
4) a Sch1 test (tracking, obedience & protection)
5) a Show grade (minimum G) (this can be obtained at our Our British Sieger Show)
6 a Koerung (can only be taken when ALL previous qualifications gained, and in the year they are 2 years old)

If such a programme was organised annually, some dogs may complete the full qualification through to a Koerung, others may 'pick up' where neccessary, the following year to completion. If required more 'items' of the programme could be organised, for example more AD and BH tests. Many people would be delighted to achieve one or both of these with their dogs, and could then possibly do the Sch test the following year.

This programme could and should be repeated annually, with more of each element where demand indicates.
Even if only a few dogs complete the full qualification process in the first year, others will be on the 'ladder' for possible completion the following year, or years.
Such a programme is neccessary, and desirable here in the UK. The WUSV Clubs need to get their act together now.
A couple of Regional WUSV events (Landesgruppen Shows) should be held next year and their number increased over following years, in addition to the British Sieger. This will also assist in the gaining of show grades.

This proposal is simply to offer the opportunity for those who may want to follow the SV system with one or more of their GSD. It is NOT aimed at replacing any Kennel Club systems, or the KC show system. It is additional to them, only for those interested. I hope that is very clear.

Hi David

as you probably know, Alyson and I have done several seminars introducing and explaining the SV system, we have a very good power point presentation that we would be happy to show at clubs around the country if people are interested. We will hopefully be holding a few seminars again this year including the practical side of the system with trainers introducing Schh obedience, tracking and protection work, these seminars were very popular and well attended. The offer is there for the theory seminar if anyone is interested.

How would you go about arranging the logistics for training etc - would you involve a German club for helpers??  Would there be enough interest with other members?  Would you just phase it in slowly or have a cut off date??

Many of us have dogs with a BH, AD, SchH1/2/3, and a show grade all done in the UK as well as being microchipped and tattood.  Unfortunately as our dogs were hip and elbow scored in the UK we have not pursued the Koerung option due to a) lack of disposable income to have our dogs scored AGAIN and/or b) our dogs are now older than 2.

David, I sincerely congratulate you on the initiative of the proposal.....for a country with the size and proximity to mainland europe this would certainly be a positive step in identifying good strong stock on an impartial basis.....though I am only an X-spurt, I recognize true passion for improvement of this breed...Kudos!!

The seminar(s) I am suggesting should be part of a WUSV Clubs 'annual programme' for the SV system. However they may call on available knowledge and experience here in the UK to assist in their programme, and Carol & Alyson you are ideal for inclusion in such a programme.

The logistics for training, and any development of additional training, or targeted training would be for the WUSV Clubs to consider. They have significant experience regarding the SV system and training facilities for the SV system already thoughout the country. Of course SV system training for "show dogs" will create challenges to the existing facilities and trainers, however the WUSV clubs will surely rise to these challenges.

Dogs over 2 years of age can take the Koerung, indeed I think the latest age a dog can take the Koerung is now 6 or 7 years of age. I will check this out.

One of the many reasons I am advocating this programme is to educate people here in the UK of the requirements of the SV system, so that they can ensure they follow the requirements and avoid mistakes, and minimise costs. It is most unfortunate if someone has hips & elbows done under the BVA/KC system, and then finds out that the Koerung requires them to be done under the SV 'a' stamp system.

I may be able to afford to have some of my dogs trained and qualified under the SV system in Germany, however I am keenly interested in everybody having the opportunity to train their dogs under the SV system, here in the UK, and hopefully in the most economical way, which obviously includes training their dogs themselves. To do this we need a programme, and education, and opportunities. Training opportunities will not be equal for everybody, geographical location will be a major factor, and unfortunately every individual difficulty in achieving their aspirations of the SV system cannot be resolved. The WUSV Clubs need to maximise opportunity and minimise negativity, for the SV system. The future for our GSD here in the UK can be exciting, we should ensure it is exciting.
