Never assume that just because a GSD was expensive, imported, and put to work at an important job that he won't be trashed later. From petfinder.com:

This Is Bravo's Story: Bravo was imported from Holland as a trained narcotics detection dog when he was 3 years old and worked for U S Customs at a major airport for 5 years keeping our country safe from narcotics. After he retired from Customs, he was donated to a KY Sheriff's Department to work searching for narcotics at their jail. When KY was through with him, he was not given a hero's retirement. He was thrown away like a wrecked police cruiser. Bravo did not deserve to wind up in a dog pound but that is exactly where he was DUMPED. US Customs was NOT aware that the KY sheriff's department dumped poor Bravo until our rescue contacted them. U S Customs is happy that we are giving Bravo a hero's retirement because they care about what happens to their dogs. Bravo deserves to be appreciated and loved for the rest of his life. Second Hand Shepherds has made a commitment to Bravo...he will be pampered and loved for the remainder of his life. He will have good food to eat, toys to play with, a soft orthopedic bed to sleep on in the house, and a German Shepherd lover who thinks he is a hero to make sure he has anything he needs to make him happy. Bravo loves toys because that was his reward for finding narcotics.

Sadly, this is not unusual. I knew a wonderful retired GSD guide dog who was going to be killed by the guide dog organization unless a rescue group found her a home (which they did).

What a beautiful old dog. You can see he is just a sweetheart. Thankfully there are people like his rescue group. I just might send that old guy a toy!!

To some people living beings are just tools to discard when they are no longer of use. May they rott in hell!

Unbeleivable how they could just throw away a dog that has nothing wrong with him other than the years he gave to ALL OF US.Would'nt it be awesome if one day we were all made to answer for our wrong doings. Thanks for bringing stories like this to the public.May those COWARDLY SCUMBAGS responsible for discarding this lovely GSD rot in hell.Have a nice day.

So many good dogs, so many jerk owners. Give the old boy a kiss for me.

I hope Bravo made the news in the town that dumped him. I'd contact Fox News. They are liable to give him a few minutes of air time, especially on Fox & Friends. He looks good for his age!

Sounds like he's been in his new home for a while.

There was a link to photos when he was first rescued.   Poor guy!

He looks great now!

I think I might need to send him a toy!

OK,now im really fkn disgusted after seeing the link rezkat5 provided. Is no one going to be held responsible for this?I mean  I know that someone of authority had him but that is even MORE reason this should be pursued. How can anybody do that to a live living creature and a GSD to boot.I hope someone who's voice can be heard says something about this.
