Hello,

I have watched this board for a very long time and decided to register to find the answer to this question:

When importing a puppy from Germany...What is required from ME when I pickup the pup at the airport here in the USA? I am getting a puppy and was told (in broken German) I would need a vet and tariff? I assume this meant I will need to pay some sort of tax on the pup but the vet?

Any help is appreciated......

Thank you,

Joseph

Hello,

My name is DiAngelo Jackson. I am stationed in Ft LeonardWood, MO. Where would the puppy be flying into and the destination. Both of my pups flew in to Atlanta, GA to St Louis, MO. You have to hire a Broker....PM me and I can help you with the contact. Is the puppy being shipped by Animals to fly or who? diangelo.jackson@us.army.mil
Who is the Sire and Dam of the puppy? I am just curious. I am fascinated with bloodlines

Thanks Diangelo for your help as I now have the issue resolved. Didnt think of calling the airport but when I did they basically said I would need approx 35.00 for a terminal fee and ID. That's it! For anyone else that may need to know at some future time.

Take care,

Joseph

So what is the issue about the alleged recent rule change; I mean about the need of a broker.

I just shipped one in yesterday..   No issues.  Did need Drivers license and $35.00 fee to pick her up.  Really easy..

I got a puppy a while back, it cost 35$. They told me that I had to keep him "in home quarnetened (sp) until 30 days AFTER his rabies shot which which was to be given when he was 3 months old........

This is where it got a little funny. My vet wouldn't give him a shot, becasue he was quarentiened......I had to find another vet for the rabies shot........crazy!

Be prepared, in Houston, they wanted cash.

Thanks for all your help and also to those that sent me PM's....love your dog justk9's..yours too Sitasmom!!

I have found that just like justk9's and Sitasmom and a couple of the PM people have said and my call to the airport that all you need here in the states (I am not sure it varies by airport) but what I specifically need is a 35.00 terminal fee and photo ID just like you guys said....that's it! Simple. First I heard about the rabies quarantine though. Anyway thanks again for your help I was really concerned but now feel much better and am looking forward to my puppy on March 30th.

Thank You!!

I had to higher a broker to get my pup through customes from Atlanta, GA to St Louis, MO. The broker had to show proof of Bill of Sale, Pet Passport, Health documentation at customes in Atlanta. When I picked the pup up in St Louis ...I had to show my ID and pay $35. The broker I chose only charged me $127. Much better than the rest. She really did a good job and took care of the pup also. She took pictures, changed inside bedding, fed, water...I appreciated what she did.

diangelo -

Was the broker by any chance Ukrainian? Just curious.

No ...it was Ellen Chance. Very nice lady. She did not have an accent and had lived in GA for a longtime.
