Please crosspost or let me know if you have room for an apprx 3 year old sable male. He was picked up with other dogs and seems to be dog friendly. I can pull if someone can take him. He is positive for heartworms unfortunately, can be treated for around $200 at one of the rescue vets I work with if need be as well.
Can not be adopted out because of his hw status, must leave under rescue organization. As I said, I can pull him but he needs somewhere to go and will need to be neutered on top of hw treatment.
Harris County Animal Control
Anyone???

I hope this boy finds a good home out there.

Oh my God he is beautiful! If you can't find anything else, and can get him to me, I'll MAKE room. I know I can find a nice home for this guy and he'll be safe here till I do. I'm cramped and poor, on't have a resuce org, but there's always room for one more here at Mother Hubbard's house for a boy like that. Don't let them kill him!d

I can take him, but I am in Fort Worth, about 6 hours away if someone can arrange transport. I have friends up here who do SAR and if he has the drive might be able to get someone to take him for that.
I can't get him nuetered right off due to finances, but can have it done.

why can't he be treated by giving him monthly HW med.? cattle ivemectrin? it has been proven that it slowly kills the HWs and the dog is cleared of them.

Because the heartworms damage the heart and the heart and lung vessels. The longer they're in there, the more damage they do. Remember, these horrible things are often more than a foot long!
