Today is Sita's first birthday, she weigs 55 lbs. does anyone have any idea how much she may weigh at full maturity, She's neither fat nor skinney, thought the vet seems to think she's on the slim side.

Hero is 5 months and weighs 52 lbs at 5 months.

Does anyone want to venture a guess on how much they may weigh at full maturity assuming they stay lean?

Sure, I'll bite!  My guess is that she'll add a little height and fill out more...maybe topping out at 65-70 lbs? Every dog I've had has continued to grow quite a bit after the first birthday. Recon was around 75 pounds and 27 inches at his first birthday. He had the figure of a starving Whippet. During the next year, he went up to 29 inches and 105 pounds (he has a waist and looks good, but he could probably stand to get down to 100). I bet your girl has some growing left to do.

You are suppose to hear the vet say " Oh she /he is a bit slim.".That is the way we want them..I heard someone say, at the trial, may have been you, " that dog is awful slim..".I remember, Yr telling you , with her ribs showing slightly, that is the proper weight for a working gsd or not working, doesn't matter.

Too many people think , a dog with weight on it is good.

Keep her/him slim. Exercise and good meat and your health problems stay in the lower percentage.

My females 1st birthday was on 2/21 and she only weighs 52 lbs.  She's 23 in. at the withers.  Her sire was 85 lbs. & the dam was 65 lbs.    My dog is slim.  Can't see ribs but can feel them.  Alot have said that she's a peanut.  Should I even think she'll get to be even 60 lbs. without being fat by the time she's filled out?  She's also very active.

Sita's just makes the lower limits of size right now, if she grows another inch it wouldn't bother me.

At 5 months (yesterday), Hero is 52 lbs. Amazing how fast he's growing......

I have to disagree with the guess of 65-70.  10-15 pounds is a LOT for a dog. In healthy muscle tone, I would guess 60. A female does not bulk out as much as a male does. One of my bitches is 60 pounds soaking wet, and I like it, she fast and agile.

My Tessie just turned two years old & I thought she would weigh alot more than 67 pounds,
she just looks big to me, but I guess looks can be decieving.......I'd say your girl will probably gain 5 more pounds at most.

Tessie is beautiful, and stout

This picture of my 'little girl' was taken in December.  She turned two this past February so this picture is from a couple months shy of her 2nd birthday.

She tops out at 60lbs when she's soaking wet. :D

She has never been a fickle eater, never misses a meal, doesn't have any gastro issues, she's just tiny.  Her dam was small also, though her sire I believe is 80-95lbs.

It drives me nuts sometimes because even compared to other shepherds I always feel she's tiny and people have to thump me on the head and tell me to stop worrying about her weight/size and concentrate on her training.  Her drive to work is strong but she's not manic in her energy levels at home, she's just 'wee'.

Also for those of you who keep score on the 'spay/neuter=weight' debate, she was spayed back in October.  I haven't altered the amount of food she gets and she has gained or lost a pound.

the spay thing is interesting, I've had dogs and cats that were spay and didn't gain a pound and I've had them that gain twice their body weight. I wonder if it has to do with theri cycle?

glad your's is staying slim.
