Hello everyone.
My shelter rescue Shepherd just turned 8. I have had her for seven years and have always wondered if she is purebred. I have no doubt that if I sent pictures and $35 to AKC, they would issue her an ILP#. However, although she is certainly mostly GSD, something about her is just different from any GSD I've met. She is 23" at the withers, 65 pounds. She has short little front legs and a tiny little head. Her topline is all wrong unless she's really interested in a squirrel...then she'll pretty much stack herself and she looks pretty nice. She is very friendly and easy to handle, loves people but pretty bitchy with other dogs. She doesn't really bark a lot but she does yodel and whine. She has that effortless, ground-eating gait at a trot-- but when she walks, you can really see those cowhocks, and she wiggles her back end. What do you think? Is it worth spending the money for the DNA test?
Here are some pics.

will you feel better when you have the same dog after you have spent $120?
will they tell you what the mix is if she is a mix? or just that she is a mix if she is.
i could see that being interesting... knowing exactly what she came from...
but $120 could buy gas and food and stuff for a trip to the beach with your dog who probably doesnt care one way or another.

Looks close enough to me!
Safe to say she is mostly GSD. I've heard of people getting some really odd results on their "Purebred" dogs too.

Like Gretsch says, use the money on some fun stuff for you and your dog.
You rescued her 7 years ago (in my book a pretty nice thing to do) and she has been your friend since, so who cares if
she `s purebreed?
She looks close enough for me, and i guess also for you, that should be enough.
By the way she could be of workingline, her backline is not giraflike, as in many showlinedogs.
i wish you and your dog lots of fun.

My understanding is that the wisdom panel recognizes the DNA markers of around 300 different breeds of dogs. It should list primary breed and also secondary, etc. However, I guess it is completely possible to get back a report stating, "Primary breed:GSD, secondary breed:Unknown" if the markers don't line up with any of their recognized breeds. Which would not help at all of course. Mainly I'm just curious. Sometimes I think she's just a tiny GSD bitch with bad conformation and unique personality. Other times I think, "Maybe she's part Husky? Beagle? Lab? Malinois?" No other breed seems to fit. I just don't know if my curiosity is worth spending the extra money when I update her shots next month. She'll always be the same dog, and I love her regardless. She's always looked kind of like a puppy; people are always surprised when I tell them she's full grown, actually a senior.

A friend of mine submitted DNA for her AKC champion American Pitbull Terrier. He came back border collie.

Well the angle of your pics doesn't help her cause. She is probably just long bodied and short legged. I say 100% GSD, when you look in backyards all over the coutry, you will se ethem every shape, size and color. She looks like me neighbors GSD from whenI was a kid. There dog was very washed out though.

That appears to be an Am. bred GSD.
The DNA tests identifying breeds are worthless b.s.
THERE IS NO TEST FOR A SPECIFIC BREED-ONLY SPECIFIC DOGS.
Save your money. If you wanted to prove your GSD had certain parentage, then DNA would work. But that's it; these breed tests are a hoax.
