so   a quick question can we talk about particular lines and what they are known for excelling in?

I personally look at the dog and then look at the lines due to seeing some amazing dogs coming out of smaller unknown kennels.

but to the veterans in the mal world can you give us newbies some input :-)

Thanks

The jury is still out on this question. However I would take a generic Malinois to any other breed out
there and never look back. 35 years in dogs. JLP

Jon

I've worked GSD's for quite some time ans just now considering Mals and Dutchies. I am curious about your statement that "generic mal" over any other breed would be your preference.

I am seeing some Mals that appear to be pretty extreem and overly drivey in the field. Is this a breed trait or training error. One PD locally is getting rid of their Mal (or so they say) because he has started wanting to bite everything. knot handler agressive - just agressive period.

I happen to know where they bought the dog and even his GSD"s tend to have some issues.

Just wondering - in general  - very briefly - how do they compare with GSD's

Thanks for you time.

Generic is an average Malinois, Hybreds are sometimes used, they need
a little more exercise. I have a Quarter horse that is bred for work. I have to
stay up on her training. But when she is in the grove, I can work her for an hour
and she wont shut down. Police want a dog out of the box that is Tops in the
field and not a nerve bag inside. Haveing said that,I know sometimes they pay
top dollar and get bad dogs. Here is how you can tell real quick, can you out
your dog? Old timers would tell you if you can't, than two bullets too the head.
And find a good dog. But I would say that training has grown in leaps and bounds.
What I see is confustion over operant conditioning, and how to use it on dogs.
The other thing is love, yes love. You must  have respect from your dog, but there
is a natural cross over  between two of Gods creations working together. Police
dogs become institutionalized. And that is not something Malinois are good at.
The top Police dog ever was the Malinois "Tazer".  And Europians have use them
and Mixed Malinois for almost 75 years.  My  horse is part of my life, and she is
very good at what she does.  But she has been with me since she was born.  I had
three trainers give up on her and had to train her myself. But I am glad I did, she
turned out better than I ever dream she could be. Lif e is like that.   JLP

Anything but a quick question. You have no idea how many fights breakout in the pubs
in Europe over this Question. However here is were you start.

For Dutch--Bill and Tommy Mason.  Al --- Scott Zwart  NM

For French Ring-- Mike Eillis and Lisa Maze in Tx &Ca--- Brigita Brinac in Canada

For Belgian Ring --- Phillppe Belloni  So Ca---- Domonic Rossi in Maine

For German IPO --- Ivan Balabanov FL-- Hardy Ernsting Va

                          Good luck,  JLP

P.S  All these people can talk intelligently about all
the different bloodlines . I just listed what they are
known for. JLP
