Schluterton

I'm not passing judgement or saying that anyone's way is right or wrong ............... but for those of you that place an ad without an asking price ............... can I just ask why?   I personally don't want my time wasted by someone looking for a $100.00 dog.  It seems to me that one would be setting themselves up to have their time wasted by doing this.

And why would someone get angry when asked the price of a dog?   I don't know of any individuals or organizations that do not have some kind of budget.

Until the SV comes out with a KBB ........... don't people have to ask?

Just curious...........

AAAAAAAA, to avoid getting ripped over the coals on the message board???
The concept that if you have to ask you can't afford it????

I don't know why not.  Just following the norm here with my ad, maybe I should re-post them.

Yeah I guess a lot of people get ripped up on here for just liking what they produce.  I've seen that often.  Not sure why it's anybodys business.  Maybe just jelousy.  I don't know .......... I just spent 3k on a dog and shipping ......... but couldn't have spent any more.   That neither makes me a deadbeat that can't afford a dog or someone that can afford a REALLY expensive dog.  But yet while shopping I had to ask everyone.  I really hated that.  Some were more some were less ...... but ya can't tell without asking.

Thanks for your reply though ....... :)

I've noticed that a lot of ads don't post prices, too, but many do say 'serious inquiries only'.  When you're asking price because you're on a budget, I don't know if that counts as serious, or not, because if the price is too high for your budget, you won't buy..

All Ads should post prices, so that interested parties have that very important piece of information.  Bloodlines are very important, but in these tough times, price is, too.

One reason people do not have prices in their ad is because there is no set price. For instance a puppy might be sold to an experienced handler for a lesser price, than the same dog would be sold to a new handler.

Perhaps then, we should post breeders sugessted price  (BSP) and wether or not it is negotiable?

Christopher ............ I'd be inclined to agree with you except that every time I inquired as to price .......... no-one asked me what I wanted them for or why I was asking.    There was a bomb dog on here not long ago .......... my boyfriends K9 dept. had money in their budget ............ but the ad said they would not respond to e-mails asking about the price.   Needless to say ........ I didn't ask.

We all know better than to ask the price of a new Ferrari ......... but with dogs ....... price is based only on opinion.

So yeah ............ a breeders or trainers suggested price would be helpful.

Anyway .......... not going to beat this to death ........... was just looking for some insight.

Dog ad - logic = Oxymoron?

by Christopher Smith on 23 February 2009 - 18:02

Perhaps then, we should post breeders sugessted price  (BSP) and wether or not it is negotiable?

But the price is not negotiable and most people selling a dog don’t want to get into that type of stuff. What I’m saying is that I, as the seller, will listen to who you are and what you do, AND THEN I will give you a price.

I also would not put a price of a dog because I don’t want to get into a tiff with some nitwit on this board about the price. It happens all the time. Some a –hole makes a post about the price a person is selling a dog for, then the rest of the cackling hen house chimes in and rips the person to shreds. If you don’t put a price people can’t talk shit about the price.

I also think that it tells a lot about a buyer when they call me and their first question is about the cost.

I have a different question.   Regarding the ads selling an "excellent proven producer,"   is that not a red flag?  I mean, if the dog/bitch is such a good producer, WHY are you selling it????
