I normally X-ray about 56 days after breeding. but I now have a pregnant female who was receptive for a long time, progesterone testig is not available where I live and as the male is also from my kennel we bred her every other day from December 31 to jan 9. So I am not sure when to expect the litter or when to X-ray - any suggestions?

Why X-ray? I would prefer ultrasound, from the size of the foetus your vet can predict approximate date of birth.

Thanks for your replies. My reason to X-ray is to know how many puppies there are, it makes decisions easier during the birth, I don't think you can tell with ultrasound? count 63 days from when, Princess!!

We always do an ultrasound 30 days after breeding to confirm pregnancy, but as it is less accurate at predicting the number of puppies, we x-ray about a week prior to due date. That way we can count skulls/spines and know how many puppies to expect, how big they are, etc...

I dont  x-ray,  just  count 63 days, from when you  saw  heat start, the week before watch. She will show signs do alot  of research and be ready to stay up all night. HA

I usually ultra-sound OR x-ray at about 5 - 5.5 weeks, the latter if we suspect a large litter because its easier to count heads. Figure 1-2 more than you can see ahead of time to account for any hiding up high, out of sight.
DO take Mom's temp regularly for 2-3 days after.
