Odd genetics story.

See the adorable show line puppy.  Note that she is sable.

Here is her pedigree:

http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/589444.html

She got the dominant sable gene from her V rated sable dam:

Who in turn got it from her V rated sable dam:

http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/410722.html

Who got it from her V rated sable sire:

Who got it from … uh oh, from whom???  Aren’t both of Champ’s parents B/R?

Anyone have an explanation?

Perhaps one of the B/R was a washed out sable that looks like a BR?    There was a post a few days ago with links to a website explaining colors and they showed this version of the sable, which does look like a B/R.

If I am not mistaken, Champ's dam is a sable, as her sire Jocko was.

Champ  Dakota's mother Vienchen Arlett was sable, her sire Jock was sable and his dam Soffie was sable.

I don't know if I agree with the above.  Is Vienchen Arlett really a sable?  She sure looks black and tan to me!

V22 Vienchen von ArlettIs she really a sable?  Doesn't seem so to me.

Look black and tan to me too.  Maybe they think the bitch strip indicates sable??

She is a sable.

Because of the coloration on the neck?  Muzzle does not look grey, so are the lighter areas bright points or just the photo?

Sable is a pattern, not a color.
