I'm with tigermouse on that,
GSD's need to grow, their hormones help their bones become strong,
neutering too early, like 6 months can cause bones to keep growing, cause
the hormones aren't there telling them "OK you are an adult dog now, so stop growing"
That's why sometimes you may see a dog that was neutered at a young age & they have
longer thinner legs, and not much muscle tone either
It's not the end of the world if he gets neutered at an early age, it's just that if you have the patience
to wait till he's 18 to 24 months, and the nerve to say to your vet. I would like my dog to grow before being
neutered, than it's worth the final result

I am also in agreement with the above, the time frame is good. I did not spay my old Astra until she was around three yrs.
