Is the SV allowing Long coats in the show ring or for breed surveys?

by Bob-O on 18 February 2009 - 03:02
There is talk inside the S.V. about eventually allowing the long stock hair (not long coated without undercoat) dogs to be judged as a separate group. I am a member and do read the web news and the magazine, but have not seen a published date that indicates when this will occur - if it ever does.
To many of us this "discrimination" does not seem fair, as often the difference between the longcoat (with undercoat) and the long stock coat (or "plush" coat) is often in the eye of the beholder. The S.V. moves very slowly when it comes to hard decisions, so I would not get my hopes up for any quick action. Perhaps someone who has better connections with the S.V. can provide a bit more detail.
Best Regards,
Bob-O

They need new members, they went from 120.000 to 65.000, that's probebly the reason.

I also understand that POLAND held a GSD Long coat Show, early 2008, and it attracted over 400 entries. Does anyone have any information on this Show?

If they begin to reallow longcoat, why not white too? They ought to. I see no reason that the brindle gene couldn't be reintroduced either. Loss of utility should be the primary concern, and that of health. Eliminate those that lack standard from the registry. That should decrease SV membership even more, but of course it won't happen. If it meets the standard, who cares if it's even purebred for that matter? I don't happen to like longcoats, but why the heck not? It appears the SV's loyalties are not to the breed's purpose, but in its own self interests. If that's true, who should care what the SV designates or allows? Good stewardship of the breed should encourage confidence, trust, and loyalty, and personally I believe the SV lacks in that role.
