Hi,
I know this has been posted bfore, but for the life of me I can't find it.
I have read the USA website and I need to know if I have to send them the origional AKC registration papers or if a photocopy would do. I know I have to send the official pedigree, and I have no problem with that, I'm just unsure of giving up the only origional registration that there is. Thank you all.

You have to send them the original.Don't worry, they won't lose or misplace it. I've done it several times in the past.

You did not indicate whether or not you are a member of the U.S.c.A.. Membership is required in order to use them to process your "a" stamp application. If you are not a member of U.S.c.A. you can do this through the G.S.D.C.A. - W.D.A. but you also must be a member of the organization. You can inquire here at: http://www.gsdca-wda.org/a-stampprogramguides.htm Which organization is better? That is a matter of choice.
You should send the original four-generation A.K.C. pedigree. Remember, with the A.K.C. it is very easy to obtain a new pedigree as long as you are the owner and you and the dog live stateside - it just costs a bit of money. You should use the original registration card as well for the same reason. It is prudent to have photocopies of each document for your own records. The S.V. does not have a record of losing critical paperwork as has the A.K.C. on occassion.
It normally requires from six (6) to eight (8) weeks to receive a reply from the S.V. unless they are busy with a major event, and in that case it can take a bit longer. Remember - these days it is necessary to send the elbow radiographs as well as the hip radiographs. Upon a successful evaluation your dog will recieve a special SZ Nummer and be entered in the breed book. The dog will not recieve red papers or white papers, but the "a" stamp will be placed on the A.K.C. pedigree that you send and a report of the findings will accompany the pedigree.
Best Regards,
Bob-O

I am a member of UScA.
I was just worried about stuff gettting lost in the mail and/or someone misplacing or losing.
Thank you, you have put my mind at ease Bob-O.
We have to redo xrays on the one dog, as I posted them not long ago and also sent them to the head vet at Auburn University. Hips are good, very crappy xray. I was planning on tattooing him while he's out for the xrays and also wanted to send in a young dogs registration who has not yet had hips done but has already a tattoo. He just turned a year old on the 4th. Thank you again.

I would like to add that it took about 9 months for me to receive the registration back from the SV on my dog. It is my understanding that this is not unusual.

It does take quite a while to get the final "a" stamp rating back. However, they do not lose the paperwork. To be safe be sure that you send the paperwork by certified mail to USA and keep copies for yourself of all the dog's paperwork in case anything might happen. I have found that USA and the SV are great to work with.
