I need to know what I can do to start the Sch1 retrieve.
I don't have a clue if I can start doing anything on my own.
I am on my own due to the stinky weather here.
Any help is appreciated.
thanks

I bumped a few threads for you to look at. A good reference book for basics would be:

Schutzhund: Theory and Training Methods (Howell reference books)
by Susan Barwig and Stewart Hilliard

I like Barwig's book as well.

You should have no problem training all obedience and tracking for SchH1 on your own -- if you have the jumps or access to them.

You will need help for protection and to advance in tracking (in 2 and above the dog tracks strangers).  As well, you will want to "proof" obedience (see if your dog can work in front of distractions) in front of other people.

You can start and do the retrieve on the flat anywhere--even in the living room. :-) Is your pup a natural, meaning will it always run out and return with whatever you throw? Is it a retrieving fool that lives to retrieve? If so, just use that. For years I had dogs that were such retrieving fools that they woke me brings things (anything) to throw for them to retrieve. I woke up every morning throwing and it was the last thing I did when I went to sleep. As a result, we always got high points in the retrieve...and I have a messed up right shoulder. :-) You can even play the "two fer" game in the house.

Take a look at the new Ivan Balabanov Obedience withot conflict  ( "The Retrieve" ). Its a great video and he breaks it down from the begining and show you the entire process from start to finish.  Checkout his new training website http://www.trainperview.com/ you can order the video from there. Good Luck & Happy Training.

Right now I have obedience training in drive by Sheila Booth. And I have Purely positive training  companion to competition by Shelia Booth.
I will look in there again.
I have two of Ivan's videos for part 1 and 2 on obedience without conflict but I don't remember any retrieve work.
I am on low budget right now. But, I don't feel comfortable doing the forced retrieve.
I am not that skilled and don't want to make a mess of things.
I heard there is a retrieve that is not forced. They use a chair does anyone know that one???
thanks for the info guys appreciate it.
Oh, so far my dog only mauls the dumbell and barks at it pawing like a crazed animal. lol
