I was wondering which one people prefer to use, Advantix or Frontline Plus?  What are the pros and cons of both?  I've already noticed ticks out in my area, guess the winter is gone.

Maybe its my imagination but for me the Frontline works better and seems to last longer.
Flip side I've had dogs who have bad reactions to frontline and not to Advantix.
I sometimes opt to use a kennel dip if the dogs come home covered in ticks.

I try to keep as much ground around the house burnt off every spring as I can safely.

Its been warm here too, moths are on my night light.

I've had great results with Frontline Plus. The product is very effective and last the duration advertised. I have never used Advantix, so I would be interested to hear those responses as well. I did see Bio Spot in the store and used that. It caused skin irrittion and a hot spot at the point of application on my dog. A bath fixed him up and the rest of the BioSpot went into the trash. it might work fine for others, but not here.

Speaking of a bath, per the instructions, BioSpot says if irritation occurs bathe and the application will wash away. Frontline Plus DOES NOT wash off. In the spring, summer, and early fall, my dog swims regularly in the river. The Frontline P does not get compromised by all that swimming. Frontline P is a good product that I would recommend for flea, tick, and lice control.

Lice???? Never ever had.  Do you have birds or chickens?
My preference is neither and question is why do you systemically  poison your dogs?  There are better less toxic ways - for example with ticks - sit down each night and go over the dog and take them off ( and burn the little suckers!).

Not saying it doesn't have it's place for sporadic occasional use in response to a problem someone else has presented but on an ongoing basis it would concern me the harmful chemical level I was maintaining in my dog's system. No wonder dogs have some of the health problems we see today.  I have used this type of product only twice. Both times I was visiting someplace else and a client dog had brought in a flea infestation the first time and a tick explosion the 2nd. I used it because (knock on wood) I have a problem with neither and did not want to bring one home.

A word of warning on vets and their insistence on the use of this product and the diagnosis of "flea bite' allergies.  As you know Mr. Nemo a pituitary dwarf shares my home.  When he came to me at age 6 fairly typical of dwarfs he was buck naked from the withers back and had really bad skin yuckies. Not because he was not being taken care of just because it's the nature of the beast of not producing enough hormones . We adjusted his thryoid a bit and added some supplements to support his system from the inside out.  By luck we hit on a combination that worked for him to clear the skin yuckies and actually grew hair (He's now the Don King of the GSD world). However it is an ongoing process and he will have flares especially if I get stupid and forget to give him his supplements.  The flares are related to the dwarfism and it's problems and nothing else.  I had a great vet who got that and was very helpful and supportive but one time when he was out of town I was forced to see his associate. I forget what I had brought Nemo in for but he was at the time in a minor flare.  Well she took a look at his scuzzy thin hair and w/o even examining him immediately declared that he was a victim of flea bite allergy and she was an expert in it ( yeah right) and that I had to immediately put him on Frontline, Advantix etc etc.  I tried explaining that the skin/hair issues were related to the dwarfism and that he and my other dogs did not have fleas. Now keep in mind she had not examined him at this point - just looked at him so it's not like she could say look here is flea dirt(not - I know what it looks like) or this is an obvious bite etc etc. She was just so full of herself as the knowledge of the universe that she continued to harangue me for 45 minutes about putting him on a systemic and refused to acknowledge that 1. he didn't need it and b. even if he did I would not use that particular drug on a systemeic basis. Last time I ever went to her.  Sometime later when I was in to see my vet (who had many more years experience than her) she spotted Nemo in the corridor and actually had the nerve to send a vet tech out to tell me that he had flea bite dematitis and I must put him on a systemic. ARRGHHHHHHHH!

I prefer advantix.  My vet and I have been noticing over the last few years of fleas becoming immune to frontline plus. I switched last year to advantix, no problems so far with it.

Frontline and Advantix both kinda petered out for me last year. We used Vectra 3D and it worked GREAT.

TIG
I've never had a lice problem either. Although it is rare, Frontline Plus controls for it. "Kills fleas, flea eggs, ticks & chewing lice."

We alternate between the two products from one year to the next. Fleas are not an issue here but ticks certainly are together with the dangerous diseases they bring. While we keep our large property free of tall grasses and weeds we can't keep the bunnies, groundhogs, and birds out so yes, there are ticks on the property.

There is some evidence that ticks can become immune to the active ingredients in these preparations over a season't time which is why we alternate annually.

I've used both, and can't say which works better.   "Supposedly" Advantix has a repelent of sorts in it.   Both work well in the flea department.  However, ticks can be tough, especially in a bad tick area.  ie:   There is a "nest" nearby, the products simply cannot keep up.   In that case, adding a Preventic collar will help too.

I live in the city, so luckily not too many ticks around here, but always surprised when the older girl who doesn't really go anywhere gets them.   Guess they are dropping off of the one tree in the yard!   The other two who go training in various places, I do treat in the bad months.   I wish that Revolution worked on more ticks, as that is a very good product.   Of course now that it's gotten warm the past couple of days, more ticks will be waking up.  They are tough buggers though, seen them on patients when it's pretty cold and snow on the ground....
