Just wondering if someone could tell me if he is german lines or american show or working or your best guess???

If he is over 18 months in these pics:
A mix of lines, I think. More work than show. At least a couple of generations away from German show and more if American lines -- that is, last few generations have not been competing in the show ring.
He is biomechanically efficient -- which is healthy and athletic, but he is even taller proportionally than even working dogs. His tight coat make this seem pronounced. So he is not a product of recent competitive working dogs. More likely a few generations back.
He was probably neutered before maturity, as he is taller than he might have been had he matured with his hormones intact. His head would look more dramatically male if he had been neutered later. His foreface looks as if there might be some American show in him a few generations back.
He is not in fashion but he is handsome and looks healthy. Probably moves well. The modern GSD standard requires a dog longer in proportion than yours, but your proportions are actually biomechanically sounder. A square dog is less efficient at long distance trotting but more efficient otherwise, and many GSDs could use more of what your boy has.
If he is younger than 18 months, than he will muscle up and become more prounounced in maleness in the next 6-18 months and my opinion about lines might change somewhat.

You can tell people your dog is what the old-time german shepherd really looked like. (There is a strange degree of ignorance about what the ORIGINAL dogs were like, especially as we can easily see pics of them.)
Look up Erich Grafenwerth. I can't seem to post my pic.
