Dear Friends,
One thing is for sure. The Stamford Shelter has gradually been taking in
more and more of those cute little purebred puppy store dogs, those that
have now grown up to be the not so cute little puppies they once were when
bought from the Puppy store. One such recent puppy comes to mind - the
little 5 month old Maltese whose owner received her as a gift from her
husband. $2,000 later, the store would not take back the dog and the gift
recipient had no intention of ever having a dog. She became a shelter dog
who we found a nice home for.
Bred by exploitive breeders, these poor little creatures are victims of the
puppy mill business. Best Friends, Utah is campaining to shut the puppy
stores down. They've already been successful in Los Angeles and are moving
around the country, coming now to NYC, right in our own back yards.
Hopefully, Connecticut is their next stop.
If you believe in a Puppy-Store-Free society. One that will help reduce
the euthanisia of 4 - 5 million shelter animals from being killed each
year, let alone what we need so that dogs don't get into the hands of
irresponsible owners, you may want to join Best Friends on Feb. 20th in NYC
at 6:30 pm.
Best Friends is the national leader in the No More Homeless Pets movement.
