My 9 3/4 wk old GSD "Drake" is on Canidae ALS and I feed him 2 cups a day.  I have been told to feed him much more than that...but the back of the bag says to only feed him 2 cups for his weight...is this too little?

IME 2 cups is about right for a 10 week old GSD puppy. Keep an eye on his weight and adjust up as he goes through growing spurts. DON'T let him get fat! Vets usually tell us our dogs are too skinny so don't listen to them. Look at him from the top. They are supposed to have a svelte waistline behind their rib cage.
Good luck with your baby!

My young female Hollie, was started on Canidae ALS at 8 weeks old and I found the recommended amounts to be accurate.
My current pup Enja (18 weeks) was started at 8 weeks on the Canidae L&R because I wanted a lower protein. She is doing great on it and I find the recommendations on the bag are also accurate so far.

Of course I'm sure that you know they are just a guideline and food should be adjusted for the individual dog since they all have different bone structure and will grow at different rates. Most important, as previously mentioned , don't let them get over weight.

Enjoy your pup !

Hello jrs1984
All my dogs are on Canidae, pups are weaned onto Canidae at around 5 wks, by the time they go out  at 8 wks
they are roughly on 1/2 to 3/4 cup three times a day, but I DO add raw ground beef and yogurt.
Good luck with your little one.

Do you mean 3/4 cup divided into 3 meals or 2 1/4 cups total for the day divided into 3 meals? How much would you feed a 10 week old male puppy?

I switched all my dogs off Canidae ALS after they changed the formaula and all my dogs got skinny and itchy. Just some food for thought. I've had great luck with Fromm and Solid Gold.

I was watching carefully for a change when the formula changed...I think we are ok, all coats shiny and no allergy...it is a slight change only....but it was a quick change, one week the old formula just wasn't there!  Solid Gold is also very good.

jrs1984 that's 3/4 cup  three times a day.  as long as you can feel the ribs, not protruding, but not having to dig for them

Pretty much the same at 10 wks still, they should progress to about 3-4 cups split over the day by around 5-6 mos, after one year old less is good. depending on the animal and activity level.
Good luck.

I do not know about the itching But i used Canidae ALS  before after they changed the formula. They lowered the  carbohydrates for sure. And  i have had a few dogs lose some weight. I would say that if this is the case you would have to increase the amount of food or add some carbohydrates. I talked to vets and canidae both say the dogs should not lose any weight. No itching and my dogs look very good. I like the food just had to make an adjustment for 2 of them

Drake has stopped eating out of his bowl...you have to dump it on the floor...he started this habit this morning and he did it again for lunch...however, at lunchtime he would barely eat it off the floor either...my wife had to get him to sit and down and give it to him as treats....what is wrong?  He's on medicine for Coccidia...he's having diarrhea.

The meds may be upsetting his little tummy.  Leave it (the food) down for 5-10 min.  If he doesn't eat, he soesn't eat.  Don't spoil him with the hand feeding.

He will eat when he is hungry this way.  best not to reinforce a bad habit in a pup (not eating from his bowl).  He will not starve if he doesn't eat a few meals.
