There is currently a class action lawsuit being filed against several
large pet food producers for the generally disgusting stuff often
included in the food. If you haven't read other reports already you may
be in for an upsetting surprise. Anyway, if you've fed one of these
foods and feel you were cheated into thinking it was healthy, you may be
interested in signing up.

last four years has been without the knowledge that the "wholesome,"
"quality," "premium" or"gourmet" food that they are feeding their companion
animals was made wholly or partially of inedible garbage unfit for human
consumption, including, but not limited to, restaurant grease, roadkill, hair, blood,
pus, esophagi, chicken heads, feet and intestines, cow brains, excrement,
fetal tissue, moldy grains, hulls, styrofoam packaging from discarded
supermarket meat, euthanized animals, including cats and dogs, and/or diseased,
dying, disabled and dead animals.

I guess lawyers have to eat too.
My dog food is not on the list.
Theres just too much shit going on these days to keep up.

Yes I know I'm sounding gross, but it is what it is.
Wolves, bobcats and the like would be in heaven if they came across a disabled/sick/deseased duck and they would eat it head, feed, intenstine and all......
My dogs have counter surfed, stole a steak in its packaging and ate the whole thing styrofoam and all, and they were fine. They have gotten into the trash and the bacon drippings, and they were fine. We went camping and my dogs found dead dear (half rotted), by the time I found what they were sneaking away from camp to eat they had eaten plenty of it and they were fine...the dogs though it was "premium stuff".....They are dogs.
If this the issue was that rat poison or solvents - then it would be a different story and they should be sued.......by what is wholsome, quality or gormet for a human is different then a dog.

The FDA is not monitoring what we eat much better.
Also markets are not inspected nearly enough and your food is not handled properly by retailers.
I am hoping to raise more myself and purchase less.

SitasMom, if chicken soup was on the list, would you continue feeding it to your dogs?
on another thread you wrote, "Check and double check ingredients and decide for yourself. I try to avoid corn, brewers yeast, and anything that says by-product......these things are useless to a dog."
the ingredients/garbage listed are all by-products, or used to make by-products. there not even close to a dog chowing down on a dead deer in the woods.

I looked at the list of ingredients and prices of what felt like 100's of pet foods. I contacted the companies of the pet foods that were on my short list and asked questions. I looked for "made in USA". I found that for its price Chicken Soup is a decent compromise.
Chicken Soup has no corn, brewers yeast or by-products. It if has ground up chicken guts (is that a form if green tripe?) I'm OK with it. (BTW Taste of the Wild seems like a good kibble too, but it is more expensive.)
Chicken, turkey, chicken meal, ocean fish meal, cracked pearled barley, whole grain brown rice, oatmeal, millet, white rice, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), potatoes, egg product, tomato pomace, duck, salmon, flaxseed, natural chicken flavor, choline chloride, dried chicory root, kelp, carrots, peas, apples, tomatoes, blueberries, spinach, dried skim milk, cranberry powder, rosemary extract, parsley flake, yucca schidigera extract, L-carnitine, Enterococcus faecieum, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Saccharomyces cerevesiae fermentation solubles, dried Aspergillus oryzae fermentation extract, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin, vitamin D supplement, folic acid.
OH, the dead deer had maggots and stunk to high heaven - dogs loved it...........I burried it and put heavy rocks over it and they dug it up. I ended up having to burn it to keep them away........it was really sickening, but they were fine.......

Some times I think that dogs go looking for the foulest things to eat or roll in. After they get a reaction from us they look for attaboys from all their dogie firends. Its a doggie conspiricy, I can hear them talking to themselves right now........
"did you see the face on her when she got a wiff of my new roadkill perfume?"
"I'd rate it a 8 out of 10"
"last week when she saw Spot eating that rotten dead turtle, I thought she was gonna puke, I gave that stunt a 9.5"
"there's a soft cow pattie in the field next door, should I eat it or roll in it? which will give more effect"
"why don't you do both, it ought to rate at least a 8.5 on our expression-o-meter"
