My 13 week old puppy got an ear infection. The vet cleaned her ear and prescribed Genizol. In the past, I had a poodle and she lost her hearing due to Gentizol. I also found the following statement on the following website:www.drugs.com/vet/gentizol-ointment.html

"The use of gentamicin-betamethasone-clotrimazole ointment has been associated with deafness or partial hearing loss in a small number of sensitive dogs (e.g., geriatric). The hearing deficit is usually temporary. If hearing or vestibular dysfunction is noted during the course of treatment, discontinue use of gentamicin-betamethasone-clotrimazole ointment immediately and flush the ear canal thoroughly with a non-ototoxic solution"

Does anyone have an experience with Gentizol?

If you suspect the ear drum to be ruptured then you do not want to use something with a steroid in it. Did the vet culture the ear?

As long as not puncture of ear drum it  is a very good ointment for yeast infedtion..I clean ears with white vinegar and not in ear but on a diaper wipe..or a paper towel..

Can the vet dermine if the ear drum is ruptured or not, just by looking at it through that device?
