I would like to microchip all my dogs, and any pups that leave my house. I am wondering if anyone does this themselves, and WHERE would you get the equiptment?( I have searched, unsuccessfully)
I lost a dog last week, THANK GOD I got her back, but the thought of her not being returned to me really got me thinking. IF Lost, I want them all to be able to be found and returned to me.

I am in the UK and microchip my own dogs and puppies.  I went on a training course and the people who organise the course are also suppliers of all the bits you need.

Getting them returned to you depends on how the chips are registered and you need to ensure that your  phone number as well as the new owners phone number gets on the databse.

Jackie Harris and I m/chip our puppies ourselves. Actually I hold them and Jackie, an RN with a cast iron nerve, does the deed. We get the chips in pre-filled syringes, registration pre-paid right down to the postage from AVID so all that has to be done later is fill out the registration (with contact info) and pop it in the mailbox.  It all comes with a good set of instrcutions.
Their website seems to be under reconstruction, but you can reach them by phone or e-mail. I have always found them to be very helpful.

I tried twice but i could never get enough of my neck scrunched up in my hand and with 2 mirrors it,s still a tough angle...

LOL Bob -

I get Homeagain chips already in the syringes with individual registrations included - get them individually or in a box of 50 (cheaper that way)- it's far cheaper to buy and do your own puppies, rather than paying the vet to do it.   It's just a big needle - if you can give vaccines you can do microchipping.

I've bought the Avid eurochip directly from Avid, like Shelley says they are very helpful when you call. I know they give discounts for buying in bulk. I have bought in groups of 5 and you get 5 for price of 3. comes with pre-filled syringes, all the tags, registrations, everything you would need to do it yourself. There are some vets that if you get it yourself won't charge you to chip them, mine doesn't.

Kitkat you can through kvvet.com to get everything you need. You can get a magazine sent to your house every season.
They have everything for dogs, cats, etc in the magazine. Everything is cheaper than buying in stores. They do have microchip supply and that machine that reads the microchip. You can also order vaccinations (other things you see around a vets office) to the list goes on and on. Check it out.

Also first time buyers get free service fee, next time you order the service fee is $5.00 unless you buy over $50 worth of things then its waivered.

Hope that helps.

I tried to get my husband to let me microchip him,  I even offered to 'chip myself, too, using the 'When You Get Alzheimers' Disease This Will Keep You Safe' line, but he vehemently declined, darn it---so I had to settle for the cell phone with Lo-jack plant.....sigh!

All my dogs & pups are chipped, Avid is awesome, & it's really very easy, just be sure not to shoot them straight through & out the other side.....(of the skin fold, not the puppy!)

And the size of the needles....holy cow....pity the poor junky THAT desperate!!

Jackie Harris LPN,CHPLN (23 years experience.....not RN...again, sigh...same work, less pay...!)
