Hello everyone... I'm am new to this message board, and what I would like to know, is it possible to obtain papers on a dog listed in the data base if you cannot get the originals from the previous owner?? I have an interest on a particular dog, but the current owner does not have the papers from the previous owner... Is there anything I can do? No papers, no dog!!
Thanks so much to anybody that can help me out!!

Hi Annie, has the person who has the dog now given you a reason that he doesn't have the papers? You have to be careful because there have been incidents where someone hasn't paid fully for a dog, therefore they don't really don't have the right to sell the dog.

no papers = no registration unless you want to register in a "non approved registry" like CKC (continental kennel club) or one of those made-up ones. Or you could get an ILP or sports registry number if you were only interested in performance with the dog, not breeding. Personally I would steer clear.

I have not recieved the papers on my 12 month old female yet either! I am very disappointed as I paid a very extreme price for her as a puppy. She will never be for sale at anytime. Mind you I am a firm believer that the dogs papers belong with the dog especially if the breeder had been paid in full for that spacific dog..

I hate to hear of this happening to people. I have bred dogs before and won't let them leave without the registration application from AKC. I have had the papers delayed a little beyond the anticipated puppy pick up date and have asked the buyers to wait a few more days to pick up their puppy. I personally don't expect anyone to pay for a puppy before they have the papers with the puppy. But then you have the flip side where buyers wil take the puppy and tell the breeder they will pay the balance when the papers come in- only for them to not be concerned with the papers at all and take the puppy with only partial payment. If nothing else, get all arrangements in writing. It may be difficult in the end to bring a civil suit but a written agreement is usually binding. Good luck to you!

It took almost a year to get Pharaoh's papers as both of his parents were imported and this was the first liter in the USA. The breeder had warned me about that and kept me up to date on progress. So, I wasn't concerned
Since both of the parents are now AKC registered, it is no big deal.

The pup is tattoed and registered she just with held the papers because she wants her spayed before I recieve them. In one breath she will lift the breeding contract if I title the dog in another she has to be spayed. The crazy thing is I live in Canada if the dog is sold with a non-breeding arrangement that is stamped right on the papers. So why aren't they here.. Sorry just having a hizzy fitttt!

Be VERY careful in this situation! Last summer I bought I dog from USIMPORTS/SARAH FOX and was told in writing and over the phone by her that she would give me the papers if I gave her an additional $1000. I did that, but then surprise, NO papers! After much "legwork" and research I located who had his papers, it was the person who USIMPORTS bought him from, and they didn't give them papers because USIMPORTS was still owed quite a bit of money for the dog. Thanks to the previous owner, and knowing how crooked and shady USIMPORTS is, we arranged to get his papers through them, but if not for their understanding and kindness, this story could have ended quite differently! So beware!

Candis it sounds like you bought her with a spay agreement? Why not just spay her and then get your papers?
