After browsing the forum I have notice some pups do not have their ears up at 10 and 11 weeks of age. Why would that be? All the gsds I have ever purchased had theirs up at 8 weeks of age and never went down. Just curious

Just curious: how many GSD puppies have you had?
It's actually not unusual for ears to not go up and stay up for a number of months. I'm not saying that it is impossible for ears to be up permanently at 8 weeks but I have not seen it. Unless there is a congenital problem with the ears themselves, how quickly they go up and stay up is not a topic of great anxiety.

From what I read, the bigger the head, the longer the ears, the longer it takes them to stand erect. My puppy is 12 weeks old and still. See pic below:

In 40 yrs I have had 10 gsds all of which their ears stood at 8-9 weeks with no issues what so ever. I'm just amazed at the fact some dogs ears are not up directly.

To the second poster your pup is adorable very impressive. What are the lines?

Here's acouple of my pups at 5 weeks old, the ears are coming up and should be up by 8 weeks,

it's nice to see but doesn't happen all the time,

I think any GSD should have the ears up to stay at the lastest 1 year after that I wouldn't be to hopeful.

I have been told that the teething process may effect the development of the ear cartilidge!

The pups I have had or trained had carousel ears: up and down especially around teething.  However, once they were done going up and down - side to side, they were always up permanently.
