While I was away on holiday my friend called to say she needed to take my GSD bitch of 4 yrs to the vet as her eye was popping out the socket. The vet diagnosed as having had a blow to the head and that it was treated just in time (with VERY expensive eye drops and antibiotics) The swelling went down after a few days. We dont know what could have happened and suspect either a blow from the tail of a water monitor (we live in the countryside and there are few of them around) or perhaps on a run one of the other dogs knocking her into a tree (they are very boisterous when they get out)
However now the eyeball has started swelling again (but not poppy out - just slightly bigger than other eye) and I have a strong suspicion that it is an internal thing? Anyone had experience of this?? If I am correct the same thing appears in humans as a sign of diabetes???? I would really appreciate any comments. Thx

I would get the dog to a ophthalmology specialist. The faster the better. Maybe pressure is up in the eye for some reason. I hope this helps.

any other facial swelling?? any fever? Had a dog with "retro bulbar abcess".. looked likehis eye owuldpop rughtut and the poor guy was so sore...often caused by a wound in the roof of the mouth .. they need to find it, so she needs to go back to the vet! Because of infection, it has a bad odor
I would have them sedate her and take a look in her mouth.. may be something else entirely.. just my experience
Good luck!

I don't fool around with eyeballs. Go to a specialist vet or big vet school- right away. You need to take her somewhere where they have the right equipment to properly diagnose and treat. Small vets will only be able to guess.
